In Night’s Bliss by Mary Hughes, Rey hates vampires after one killed her parents and left her for dead. Still, she finds herself infiltrating a vampire castle to get an antidote to a poison to save a person she cares about, Greyson. When Greyson recovers, however, she finds herself facing Kai Elias, the Vampire King. With vampires coming after her, Rey has no choice but to put her trust in Elias. Only, along the way, they both realize that there’s more to Rey than meets the eye, and Rey starts to realize that maybe all vampires aren’t as bad as she initially believed. But will she allow herself to fall in love with one?

It took me a while to get into this one. This is the third book in the series and I haven’t read any of the previous books. While each book is supposed to be a standalone, I felt like readers were supposed to already know Rey and her background. Her sister’s book was the previous book in the series, and I’m left wondering if maybe some of Rey’s background had been covered in that.

I felt for Elias because Rey is convinced all vampires are evil, while he just wants to show her that isn’t the case. He basically walks on eggshells, keeping his vampire instincts at bay just to make her feel more comfortable, at the expense of his own safety. It’s clear he cares about her, but it’s hard for her to let go of her prejudices.

Rey gradually starts to come around to Elias, and it was interesting to watch her learn to decipher that you can’t judge a whole group of paranormal beings based on the actions of one. There’s also a secret that comes out which throws her for a loop and makes her reevaluate everything. I was a little surprised with how well she took it though.

With a few unexpected twists and turns as well as plenty of action, Night’s Bliss is a book paranormal fans will enjoy.

I could never trust a vampire. Ever. It wasn’t enough that vampires killed my parents and left me for dead. Nope, they also left me with this searing fear of every one of their kind.

But when someone I care about grows sick from poison, I have no choice but to infiltrate a Romanian castle filled with pissy, evil vampires in search of the antidote. And my only saving grace is that for some reason, I can do things other humans can’t. Unfortunately, I also seem to be the perfect bait for the Vampire King, Kai Elias.

More than seven feet of dark, wicked charisma, ancient eyes, and a body that holds more power and raw, animal sexuality than I can resist. But there’s something about Elias that looks painfully, terrifyingly familiar. Now I am in over my head and my heart. And my only choice is to trust this dark, charismatic creature…or die.
