HJ_Recommends One True Heart (Harmony Series #8) by Jodi Thomas: Millanie McAllen, a Captain in the Army is one-true-heart-picsuffering from a broken leg. She heads to Harmony, Texas, a town where her family is prominent. She catches a ride from the airport with Drew Cunningham. Drew is a teacher who suffered two gunshot wounds in a school shooting. It traumatized him, he couldn’t save all the children, and he suffers from PTSD. He can only teach one class at a small college. Millanie and Drew have a connection from the start.

“The kiss was born of a need, almost as if this moment might be life and death for them both. She held on tight, wanting what he offered. Wanting to feel something more than duty or pain.”

They aren’t the only ones. Drew’s sister Kare develops a relationship with Johnny Wheeler. Johnny’s wife left him for another man. He gets arrested on suspicion of murder for killing his ex, but Kare believes he is innocent and visits him often. Eventually, he is released as his ex-wife turns up alive and unharmed. Meanwhile, Beau Yates reconnects with Lark, who works at the bank. He is a successful musician who returns to town after his father becomes ill and eventually passes away. After Beau is mugged, Lark spends nights at the hospital with him, talking and laughing. However, Beau feels he isn’t good enough for her.

“She deserved better than him. He lived in the night’s smoky air and she lived in sunshine.”

It was fun to hear about the Harmony characters from previous books as well as those from Twisted Creek. There are three budding romances, all interesting. Drew, Johnny, and Beau were all good men who deserved to be loved. Millanie, Kare, and Lark were strong, tough women who can be equal partners. There is also a hint of danger underlining all three tales. This was perhaps the weakest point of One True Heart. I have read the previous books in the Harmony series and enjoyed them all. One True Heart was no different. I would have liked to have read more about my favorite characters Noah and Reagan, but enjoyed the brief update I was given.

I recommend One True Heart to anyone who has enjoyed this series and to those who enjoy small-town romances.

Thanks for the review, Allison. I like Jodi Thomas, but I haven’t read this series. I do like the sound of this book so I’ve added it to my wish list.
