Outrageous by Minerva Spencer is the second book in the new Rebels of the Ton series. It was fine reading it as a stand-alone, but I think that reading them in order helped me to understand the storyline and the history between all the characters. Godric and Eva were first introduced to us in the first book, Notorious. Godric had maneuvered Drusilla “Dru” and Gabriel, Eva’s brother, into a compromising situation, leaving them no choice but to marrying each other. Eva feared that Godric’s insults and goading towards their family would lead Gabriel to issue a challenge to a duel.

Eva de Courtney, daughter of the Marquess of Exley, knew Godrick Fleming was scheming against her brother and sister-in-law. She followed Godrick for a few weeks and when she discovered he was going to kidnap her sister-in-law, she kidnaps Godrick. She thought she could take him north to Scotland then leave him and return before her family even missed her.

Godric Fleming, Earl of Visel, was on the brink of kidnapping Dru when he finally came to his senses. He realized his behavior towards Gabriel had been irrational since he had never done anything to Godric. He knew his actions had been reckless since losing his wife and child during the war and then his entire family when they traveled to the Continent after he was injured.

Godric had no plans to remarry but he realized that Eva’s reputation would be ruined otherwise. He insisted on protecting Eva’s reputation but their trip to Scotland became more dangerous than they expected. Although I really did not care for Godric in the first book, he did redeem himself in this book. He was giving up his scheme of kidnapping Dru when Eva put her plans into action. Godric never wanted the pain of losing a loved one again but realized his life was just as empty without Eva in it. I’m always pulled into books written by Minerva Spencer from the first page. Her female characters are always charismatic, independent, intelligent, and spirited. I love seeing the heroine unsettle the hero and force them to see their lives in a new way. As always, I look forward to the next book in the series.

The last thing Godric wants to do is make the fiery, impulsive Eva his wife, despite her delectable mouth and alluring innocence. He knows from experience that nothing is forever, not even love. But honor demands he do right by the lady, no matter how stubbornly Eva tries to hold on to her independence. And while the road to the Scottish border is beset with danger, Godric’s greatest challenge is to keep his hands—and his heart—from his captivating bride-to-be…
