Perfect Distraction by Allison Ashely: When oncology pharmacist Lauren spilled her coffee on the hot guy behind her at the coffee shop, she was not expecting to ever see him again much less for him to be a patient at the hospital where she works. After being dealt with a bad hand by life Andrew is determined to kick his cancer in the butt all while completing his law degree.
The pair meet again in the every same day when Andrew, his mum and his three sisters (his own little cheer team) all go to the oncology department to get further information regarding his upcoming chemo treatment, when Lauren walks into the room to explain the procedure to them, Andrew however hardly absorbs anything he is far to distracted by Lauren. After again running into each other at his first chemo treatment, they strike up a friendship. As things progress they both realise that they are both attracted to each other. Lauren however is more apprehensive about getting involved with a good looking guy like Andrew, after having had a bad experience with her college boyfriend. Having this playing at the back of her mind Lauren is determined to keep Andrew firmly in the friend-zone. Not being one to give up Andrew persists with getting closer to Lauren.
“I know you don’t want to do anything about it right now. I do. I’m trying my best to hold back and respect you and the job you’re so good at, that you love. But I want you to know that I think you’re amazing. You’re funny and generous, and heart-stoppingly beautiful. So I’m giving you fair warning that when my treatment is over, this is happening.”
For a debut author, this book was very well written, with well developed characters and a strong story line. Ashely has done a brilliant job of touching on multiple issues that people face in everyday life all while interlacing a beautiful love story. It was nice to see for a chance that in a medical romance the lead was not a doctor or a nurse but a pharmacist. This gave the book a fresh look into the medical romance genre.
“I’m soy into you.” A twinkle entered her eye.
“Are you Pho real?”
“Udon even know.”
“ You make miso happy.”
Perfect Distance was definitely an experience, it had me crying one moment and then laughing at their love for pun the very next minute. I loved the relationship Lauren and Andrew build through the course of this novel and how they tried to keep things professional and platonic but life had other plans for this cute couple. This was an enjoyable read that anyone who enjoys medical romance will enjoy this pun filled love story.

Lauren Taylor isn’t thinking about love, especially not with the impossibly attractive man she accidentally spilled coffee all over. He’s out of her league and she’s focused on finishing her oncology pharmacy residency. She’s sworn off men who are too handsome for their own good, anyway.
Andrew Bishop can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous redhead who crashed into him and then disappeared, even though he should have way more on his mind – like dealing with his Hodgkin Lymphoma diagnosis and finishing out his last year in law school. When Andrew and Lauren run into each other at the cancer center where she’s working and he’s being treated, they try to keep it professional. They can be friends, and nothing more.
But sometimes life has other plans…
