Plot Twist by Erin La Rosa: It all started with a drunken confession from romance writer Sophie, that she has never actually been in love, now this wouldn’t be such a big deal if only her drunken confession hadn’t gone TikTok viral! With a book deadline looming and no inspiration for the ending insight Sophie enlists the help of her landlord/hottie Dash, who also happens to be her best friends brother, to help her figure out why non of her relationships have gone the distance, in the hopes that it will help her finish her latest book. In return she will be helping Dash with a speech that he needs to deliver. Should be a total win right? Well that is until the line between friendship and romance begin to blur for Dash and Sophie… could their TikTok journey be the beginning of their very own love story?
Plot Twist was just the kind of cute, low angst, forced proximity, friends to lovers romance that I was looking for. I really enjoyed the easy balance between the softer cute moments in this book while we also got to see Sophie and Dash facing a few more challenging issues. Also I have to say I loved the fact that Sophie was an author and all the book terminology that came into play while reading this book.
Both main characters were really interesting and easy to love. One of the thing I really liked about both of these two main characters was the fact that they were both dealing with their own issues but together they helped each other become stronger versions of themselves. Sophie was a great leading lady, I loved that she was so open about her sexuality and that even though at first she was a bit nervous about confronting her exes, she powered on so that she was able to truly find herself. Another thing I have to say that I liked about her character was that La Rosa made her a bit more real and relatable by giving her a pacemaker, this is not a common occurrence and made for an interesting addition to her character profile. As for our hero Dash, well he was pretty charming. I loved the fact that he was there for Sophie each step of the way and that he really could not help but fall for her even though he assumed that relationships were not for him. I will say his battle with alcoholism was depicted very well and I found his struggle to remain sober both touching and very understandable.
The connection between Soph and Dash was undeniably hot, they had chemistry for days and I just ate it up! This book really brought the steam in buckets. Aside from having great sexual chemistry I loved the fact that they were genuinely supportive of each other. For once in a relationship Soph did not have to make herself feel smaller or quiet her personality and being with Soph allowed Dash to truly feel safe and not have the constant pressure surround him. I truly loved getting to follow Soph and Dash as they went through this journey together, through the tears and the laughs.
Plot Twist turned out to be a much more deep and touching read that I had initially expected. This book touches on the pressures that come with families, sexuality and identity, but also the power of love and feeling safe. All in all this was a great book that I would recommend!
