In Prison Break Hostage by Anna J. Stewart, Dr. Ashley McTavish is on her way home when she witnesses a prison bus crash. Instincts have her rushing to the bus to help all those who were injured. It soon becomes clear that this was no accident but a prison break, and the leader of the group needs medical assistance. They take her along, where she finds protection from a prisoner known as Lucky, only she can’t decide if he’s a good guy or a bad guy based on his behavior.

Lucky is actually Slade Palmer, an undercover FBI agent, who was in the prison for eighteen months in attempt to infiltrate Valeri’s crew. He volunteered to take the assignment in the hopes of finding his missing cousin, who disappeared from the club Valeri’s brother owned. Now he’s caught between maintaining his undercover persona and protecting Ashley.

When his cover is blown, Ashley and Slade are not only fighting their attraction to one another, but are also fighting for their lives. With Ashley’s brother, who is a detective, his partner, and several FBI agents looking for them and for Valeri’s crew, will Slade finally find the answers he’s been looking for?

This book grabs your attention from the first scene and holds it until the last. I did find Ashley and Slade to be a bit of an insta-love situation, which isn’t normally something I enjoy, but I thought it worked well in this case.

This is the fifth book in the Honor Bound series, and I will say that I felt like readers were expected to know about most of the secondary characters and their relationships. While it didn’t take away my overall enjoyment of the story, I did feel like I was missing a little of the background of how they were all connected. For the record, I’ve previously only read Reunited with the P.I., which is the second book in the series.

Prison Break Hostage is filled with action, tension, strong characters, and well-written villains that will grip the reader’s attention from the first page until the last. If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is one that shouldn’t be missed.
