Project Duchess by Sabrina Jeffries: Wow! What a way to start a series! Project Duchess is the first book in the Duke Dynasty series and has set the bar very high!
The Duke of “Grey” Greycourt’s mother has married three dukes and has had children with each. The family connections were a little confusing, but the author put a family tree in the front of book that made it very easy to figure out.
Grey is the oldest child of the family and when his stepfather dies, he returns to his family. He has distanced himself from his family because he was hurt when his mother and stepfather sent him to England with his uncle when he was a child. The time he spent in his aunt and uncles house were not the happiest and he didn’t understand why his family had sent him to live with his uncle. His youngest brother, the Duke of Armitage, suspects that his father was murdered and ask Grey to stay and help him investigate. Beatrice Wolf is the Duke of Armitage’s cousin and is helping organize the funeral.
Both dukes suspect Beatrice and her brother Joshua of murder. Beatrice is sassy, bold and an independent woman and is not afraid to say what she thinks of Grey. The Duchess of Armitage is helping Beatrice to prepare for a London Season and Grey gets “recruited” to help with the duchess’s “project.” As Grey and Beatrice spend more time together, they realize that they have a lot of things in common.
Will Grey be able to prove Beatrice and Joshua’s innocence? Was Grey’s stepfather murdered? The suspense of the story made it so hard to stop reading in the middle of the book. There was so much drama, family bantering, wit, suspense and romance in the book it kept my attention throughout. The book leads the reader into the next book in the series and I can’t wait to read it!

A series of stepfathers and a difficult childhood have left Fletcher “Grey” Pryde, 5th Duke of Greycourt, with a guarded heart, enviable wealth, and the undeserved reputation of a rogue. Grey’s focus on expanding his dukedom allows him little time to find a wife. But when his mother is widowed yet again and he meets the charmingly unconventional woman managing his stepfather’s funeral, he’s shocked to discover how much they have in common. Still, Grey isn’t interested in love, no matter how pretty, or delightfully outspoken, the lady . . .
Beatrice Wolfe gave up on romance long ago, and the arrogant Duke of Greycourt with his rakish reputation isn’t exactly changing her mind. Then Grey agrees to assist his grief-stricken mother with her latest “project”: schooling spirited, unfashionable Beatrice for her debut. Now that Beatrice is seeing through Grey’s charms to his wounded heart, she’s having trouble keeping him at arm’s length. But once Grey starts digging into her family’s secrets, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her family . . . or with the man whose lessons capture her heart . . .
