In Rancher at Risk by Barbara White Daille, Ryan Malloy has been having a tough time since he loss of his wife and son. After he took things too far one last time his boss has decided to send him to Flagman’s Folly, New Mexico. Unfortunately, his bad Rancher-at-Risk-by-Barbara-White-Dailleattitude lands him in hot water as soon as he arrives in town with one of the locals.

Lianne Ward has been deaf since birth, but she has not let her disability define her. Now she is back in her hometown to rebuild her life and prove to her ex that she can definitely make it on her own. When her niece runs into the street chasing after her dog and is almost run over by a car, Lianne has to explain to her why she should not run into the street again. What she cannot stand is the attitude of the cowboy who decides to start judging them and calls her a drunk.

Things will only get more interesting when they find out that they are both going to be living under the same roof on the ranch as Ryan is the foreman and Lianne will be the ranch manager. They will have to learn to compromise and to trust each other enough to get their own jobs done and to meet their own goals. But Ryan’s tendency to try and control every last thing and Lianne’s independency to prove herself will complicate things.

The chemistry and attraction between Ryan and Lianne is pretty immediate, but Ryan may not be completely ready to let go of his past and Lianne needs to heal from hers as well. Add a couple of the town’s busybodies and matchmakers and you just know that things are not going to be simple for either of them.

I just loved that Rancher at Risk had an easy flow to it. Lianne had a hard life between the world of the deaf and the world of the hearing, since she could speak and read lips she didn’t fully belong with the deaf, but since she could not hear she didn’t fit in with the hearing. Something that not many could understand, and something that Ryan will learn when he finds out that she is deaf. While Lianne will help Ryan heal from his own wounds and guilt and help him learn that he cannot control everything to make sure that everything will work exactly as he wants.

If you want a sweet, fun and slightly different read, don’t miss Rancher at Risk by Barbara White Daille.
