Recipe for Love by Katie Fford: Competing in a cooking show, Zoe hopes for nothing more than to win the prize money and open her own deli. The same can’t be said for Zoe’s roommate who doesn’t even like cooking, but wants fame, and will do whatever she can to achieve it.
But even with a hot and cold, and very rude roommate, Zoe finds herself enjoying the process as she gets to know the family hosting her and the show on their estate. And especially as she finds herself falling in love with one of the judges, Gideon.
She may know it’s wrong, but what began as chance meetings grew into something so much more that neither can deny.
“Maybe we’d better pretend we haven’t me before.”
“If you like,” he said, “but it won’t make a difference to how I judge you.”
“Oh.” She blushed. “Not that I thought it would. I just wanted to help.”
“And you did.” He almost smiled. “But it won’t make you win.”
Recipe for Love is definitely my favorite Fforde book I’ve read so far – although I can’t tell if it’s meant to be women’s fiction or romance. It’s a good mix of both, and both aspects I highly enjoyed, but it really did leave me wanting more Gideon.
The competition, its challenges and the various entanglements Zoe got herself into, were fun to read, and I loved seeing the type of person Zoe was. She’s just plain good and resourceful – although that also meant she played a lot nicer with her roommate than I would have.
I wouldn’t say this story had much development of any kind beyond her cooking skills, but even so it’s an enjoyable and fun read. What I really wanted was more interaction with Gideon. I liked what there was, but somehow they were in love and I don’t understand how. Overall, for those who love a light romance, some intense cooking (and there was a large focus on the cooking), and a cute cast of characters, I recommend Recipe for Love.
