In Resisting her Rescue Doc by Alison Roberts, Paramedic Cooper Sinclair finds his life turned upside down by the adventurous and risk-taking Felicity ‘Fizz’ Wilson, the woman that helps him rescue someone from the sea after a car crash. They’re complete opposites, but he finds himself falling for her anyway once they begin to spend time together. Yet, neither are looking for a relationship and certainly aren’t interested in love, but can Cooper convince Felicity to take the biggest risk of all – forever love?

”And you always just happen to be where the action is happening? That picture of you in the paper a few days ago…Unbelievable…And you just happened to be driving right behind the woman who ran her car off the road?”
“I saw it happening. Some idiot on a motorbike was trying to pass when he didn’t have room and she had to swerve. Her wheel caught in the gravel on the side of the road and she just lost control and went straight through the barrier.” Fizz shrugged. “Hey…what can I say? Apparently I’m a trauma magnet.”
“I guess it keeps life interesting.”

Ms. Roberts always writes heartfelt and wonderful stories that make me sympathize with the main characters and this story was no different. Really, the hero and heroine have been through so much in their lives and it’s understandable why they’re so against forever relationships. With the heroine losing the love of her life while the hero has never found anyone he wants forever with because he has so much guilt locked up inside. Will Felicity ever be able to let another man in, especially when there’s every possibility she could lose someone else if she falls in love? Will the heroine be able to help the hero let go of his guilt?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, the medical emergencies these two are tasked to handle and the challenges these two face to be together; challenges I didn’t think they’d have any possibility of overcoming, considering how adamant the heroine was that she’d never give love another chance. However, I liked that she found love doesn’t work that way and that it’s the one emotion that can sneak up on someone when they least expect it.

Fizz could feel her eyes starting to drift shut. “I don’t take stupid risks, you know. They’re always well calculated.”
“Hmm…”
“You really got affected by that guy, didn’t you?”
“What guy?”
“The one you worked with that you told me about. The partner who didn’t follow the safety rules and got killed?”

With the heroine, she’s strong; brave, a total adrenaline junkie that’s determined to experience life to the fullest because someone she loved didn’t get the chance to; and I liked that she gave the hero a chance, even though he affects her more than any other man has in a long time and getting close to Cooper could get her heart broken all over again. While the hero, he’s excellent at his job, kind, caring, confident and I liked his determination to win the heroine over, even though he isn’t interested in a relationship. Yet, what I liked most of all about this couple is how they help each other to heal from their pasts by taking the kind of risk they never thought they’d take – letting someone else into their life completely.

Overall, Ms. Roberts has delivered a really good read in this book where this couple have wonderful chemistry because they’re complete opposites with the heroine determined to take risks while the hero is determined to shy away from them because of their pasts; the romance was delightful and had me loving that these two took a chance on each other because they need the other to be able to move on beyond the sadness and guilt of their pasts; and the ending had me worried for one of the main characters because of what happens, but left me smiling as Felicity realizes that love is the biggest risk of all and a risk worth taking. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as these two are so happy together and deserve every bit of happiness they’ve found. I would recommend Resisting her Rescue Doc by Alison Roberts, if you enjoy medical romances, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Caroline Anderson, Charlotte Hawkes, Louisa Heaton and Becky Wicks.
