In Resisting the Rancher by Roxanne Snopek, Celia Gamble is in real big trouble. She has just opened her practice as a country veterinarian and is having a bit of a hard time getting people to bring in their animals to her. It takes time to build trust and a clientele, but now all her hard work is in danger of falling apart.

Resisting-the-Rancher-by-Roxanne-SnopekA misunderstanding and an error from her past is rearing its ugly head and she needs help to make it go away. Unfortunately she needs legal help and the only person who can help her is her brother’s best friend and the family’s lawyer, Jonah Clark. But Jonah is also her childhood crush and the person she has always dreamed of seeing her as a bona fide woman. Which means that she cannot tell him about her error for that would only make her look terrible, and there is the chance that he will tell her family.

Jonah knows that something is off with CeeCee, but she won’t tell anyone. Not to mention that her brother making digs at her that are only hurting her is not helping. So when CeeCee runs out in the middle of family dinner after another argument, Jonah has to make sure that everything is all right with her.

When Jonah arrives at CeeCee’s place he doesn’t know what to say. He wants to make her feel better, but there is something else bothering him and soon he finds out that someone is blackmailing her. He will do everything he can as a lawyer to help her get rid of the threats and stop this person. But since Celia is keeping things from him, there is not much he can do.

Now Jonah will do his best to help CeeCee and keep her safe, but he still has to keep some distance from her. Because no matter how much he wants to be with her and get to know the woman in front of him now, she is still his best friend’s little sister, and guy code forbids him from dating her. But Celia will not accept guy code that easily and will make things really complicated for Jonah.

As Jonah and Celia try to stop the blackmail and get rid of all threats, they will come closer together. But this person is not right in the head, and will not stop with just a few legal letters telling her to cease and desist. Which will bring Celia’s past to the forefront in front of the entire community and her family. Only Jonah will be able to stand with her to give her the support she needs to face her past and her family.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this fourth book in the Three River Ranch series. I loved how Roxanne brought all the main characters we fell in love with before to visit and support Celia in this book. Not to mention that the slow makeover that her brother’s fiancée, Desiree, gives Celia is just awesome. At first Celia is not sure about a makeover, she has always been a tomboy, but Desiree wants to give her a makeover before she marries her brother, and Celia is unable to deny Desiree her wish. A perfect way to bring the swan out of the ugly duckling and make her shine and be noticeable more and more to the one person she wants. Reading about how Jonah slowly sees the changes and starts falling for Celia was really fun.

If you want a sweet and down to earth romance read, don’t miss Resisting the Rancher by Roxanne Snopek.

She’s his best friend’s sister, but he’s ready to break all the rules…

Country veterinarian Celia Gamble is in trouble. A misunderstanding from her past is rearing its ugly head and the only person she can turn to is Jonah Clarke—her family’s lawyer and, as it turns out, her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. She always wanted Jonah to see her as a bona fide woman, but as a woman who’s being blackmailed for seducing a married man? Not on her life.

Jonah is happy to help Little CeeCee Gamble, if only she’d come clean about why she’s being blackmailed. But with his best friend Zach’s wedding on the horizon, and Zach’s fashionista fiancée Desiree giving CeeCee a makeover, the little duckling Jonah remembers is turning into a definite swan. And the unwritten law on sisters is clear—hands off. Jonah must resist or lose the only true family he’s ever known.
