Reunion Under Fire by Geri Krotow: Annie Fiero returns home to take over the management of her grandmother’s knitting shop while she recovers from a stroke. But, Annie is also on a sabbatical from her job after a tragic incident left her stunned. As an NYPD psychologist and an abuse survivor herself, Annie recognizes the telltale signs of domestic violence when a young woman named Kit comes into the shop looking for her grandmother. Feeling compelled to report the situation, Annie is stunned to find herself explaining her suspicions to her friend and former high school sweetheart, Josh Avery.
For Josh, Annie was the girl who got away. But, Josh has serious family obligations as the sole guardian of his mentally challenged sister. However, it doesn’t take long for Josh’s long-buried feelings to rise to the surface, while Annie finds Josh absolutely irresistible now that he’s grown up to be so hot and sexy. But, are either of them able or willing to make a long-term commitment?
Meanwhile, Annie’s experience as a psychologist puts her in a position to help law enforcement officials flush out a sex trafficking ring.
This is an emotional second chance at love story, combined with an intense, fast-paced crime story. The story grabbed my attention right away and kept me engaged from start to finish. The author hits on some important issues, while exploring complicated family issues. The chemistry between Josh and Annie is a perfect blend of friendship, angst, and super-hot intimacy. While I liked and respected both Josh and Annie, there is a lot going on in this novel, which left little time for much in depth development of the secondary characters. I felt more information about the crime operation would have been helpful, as well. However, there is a perfect balance of romance and suspense, which will satisfy fans of both genres.
This one is a real page turner with a taut, nail-biting finish and a sweet happily ever after. Fans of steamy romantic suspense will not want to pass this one up!
