Reunited with Her Surgeon Boss by Amy Ruttan: Victoria has worked hard to become a transplant 
surgeon. Suddenly her job and reputation are up in the air after her latest patient died during surgery. She got pushed into doing the surgery that she had bad feelings about from the start. The patient had already been in poor health, but the hospital wanted to go forward for prestige. Now, Victoria can’t work until an internal investigation is done.
Her boss asks her to go in his place to a hospital in the US Virgin Islands to be part of a team doing a domino organ transplant procedure. This is where different donors are matched up with different patients when their own families/friends aren’t a good match.
Victoria gets a huge shock when she arrives at the tropical hospital. Yes, it’s state of the art and the area is lovely. The thing she wasn’t expecting was Matthew. The two of them were very close in the past, but when Victoria won a position they were both vying for, Matthew went home to the Virgin Islands and had just recently become chief of staff. They will have to get over the past and stay professional during the arduous surgeries. Will the flame that once burned for them reignite again?
I liked both characters equally. They had both suffered serious losses in the past and that seemed to make them leery about getting too close again. Also, Victoria hadn’t told Matthew that she had never had a real family and was a product of the foster system. She certainly didn’t let that keep her from pursuing high goals, which is very admirable. Matthew comes from wealth, but is a down to earth guy in many ways.
The romance blooms slowly, but surely and is very well written. I was impressed with the research the author did in the medical aspects. I had never heard of domino transplant surgeries before. Right as I was finishing this novel, there was a fascinating story on our local news station with two husbands and their two wives, none related, that had great success with a domino procedure.
Matthew has a twin named Marcus who plays a pivotal role in Reunited with Her Surgeon Boss and has his own story in the next book in this fascinating duo. I have already started it. I look forward to more tales from the talented Amy Ruttan.
