In Siren’s Call (Rainshadow #4) by Jayne Castle, Siren Ella Morgan has spent years Siren's Callhiding her psi-ability in fear that it will put her on the police’s watchlist. Her talent can be deadly if used wrong. So when she’s called on to use her psychic songs and consultant Rafe Coppersmith steps in, Ella is instantly wary. The fact that they have an intense attraction doesn’t help matters. Against her better judgement, she and her new found friend, dust bunny Lorelei, go on an adventure helping Rafe with his family’s failing project.

‘This was the one man she could be herself with, and that was a gift she had never expected to receive.’

Rafe is immediately drawn to Ella when they meet in the catacombs beneath Rainshadow. And he’s pretty certain that she’s a Siren. The stuff of legends. But she is very real and they have a connection that won’t go away. After a disastrous attempt to pursue his family’s newest venture on Wonderland, Rafe is feeling the psychic effects. But somehow Ella and her unique psi-talent stabilizes him. Intent on keeping her from harm and to see where things lead, he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her in his life.

“Does it occur to you that all we ever do when we go out is run from bad guys?”
“One of these days we’ll do coffee. I swear it.”
“Promises, promises.”

Paranormal romance doesn’t get much more creative or suspenseful than Siren’s Call. In a world where the remnants of Alien life changed humans and their abilities forever, Rafe and Ella use their powerful talents to stop an organization set on violence.

‘I’ve dreamed about you, Siren. You don’t know it but you saved my sanity and probably my life.’

This was my first trip to Harmony, more specifically Rainshadow Island. I can now see why everyone raves about this world author Jayne Castle has created. It’s fantastic! There were so many intriguing creatures; a lot of them familiar but with some surprising (and deadly) twists. My favorite one: dust bunnies. Yep. Doughnut-loving little Lorelei stole the show for me. I loved her obsession with all things sparkly and how fiercely she protected Ella. I got such a kick out of her and loved the scenes she was in.

I was glad to find that even though I’m new to this world it was fairly easy to follow along. Although I’ll definitely be checking out more of this Rainshadow series as well as the Harmony series. And I have to say that the inventive plot twists really held my attention. I didn’t figure out who the ‘bad guys’ were until the very end which was great.

Both Rafe and Ella were extremely likable characters. I thought they were equally strong, especially in their talent. The idea of Ella being a Siren, something that’s so mystical and misunderstood in their world, added something special to the storyline. She may have been reluctant to believe she could have a man in her life long-term thanks to the myths, but Rafe was ready to prove Ella wrong. I liked his candor and his willingness to let her in while he was struggling with his own issues. They truly were a dynamic duo.

I had so much fun getting to know Ella, Rafe and Lorelei in Siren’s Call. If you’re a fan of offbeat paranormals that combine vivid imagery with a solid plot and passionate romance, I think this book is for you.

Aren’t they so much fun?! I had to go to her website to check out the pictures of what they’re based on and get some more details. Love the whole doughnut obsession. LOL
