Something Blue by Heather McGovern finds wedding planner Beth Shipley desperately needing to plan an incredible wedding to save the family business, after food poisoning at their last event left them with a bad reputation. Knowing she needs the business, Beth’s best friend, Shelby, turns to Beth and her sisters to plan her rushed wedding. Only Beth didn’t imagine having to work with, and fight against, the groom’s brother, Sawyer Silva.
Sawyer’s family runs a successful ranch, and after finding out his own fiancé had been using him for his money, he has a negative view on love. He worries his brother, Garrett, is rushing to the alter, and while he doesn’t necessarily want to stop the wedding, he would like to see it postponed. He fights Beth in every step of the planning, but soon finds that he enjoys spending time with her. But when his suspicions about Shelby come to light, will he not only ruin the wedding, but his own chance at love as well?
I liked Beth and Sawyer as a couple. He refuses to back down, and she refuses to give in. There’s a nice push-and-pull between them, which leads to some interesting banter. As an individual though, I had an issue with Sawyer and how he handled things with Shelby. Instead of talking to her and getting to the bottom of the situation, he stews on it and gets angrier and angrier. He lets his own past cloud his judgement of her and hurts her, when all she wants to do is be accepted by the brother of the man she loves. If he didn’t want to confront Shelby, he could have at least had a discussion with Beth. While I could understand she might be biased towards her friend, she knows her and would have been able to clear up the misconception so it wouldn’t have reached the point that it did.
Despite my issues with Sawyer, I enjoyed the story overall. It’s a small-town romance about family, friends, forgiveness, and love. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next with the sisters at the Orchard Inn.
