Spider GameIn Spider Game (GhostWalkers #12) by Christine Feehan, Trap Dawkins, or Iceman as his fellow GhostWalkers call him, is spending the majority of his time hunting for an irresistible woman named Cayenne in the Louisiana bayou. His friends may laugh but he knows he won’t be able to let it go until he can make her his own. Trap has his work cut out for him when wild and dangerous Cayenne proves to be every bit as smart as he is. And she’s not planning on making anything easy on him. Especially settling down.

“Manly? Growly?” He poured approval into his voice. “Now you get it. That’s me, baby, I’m the man and you concede in all things to your man.”
She rolled her eyes, and he wondered just where she’d gotten that particular gesture or whether it just came naturally to her. He was fairly certain the eye roll meant she wasn’t taking him all that seriously.

While freedom from the laboratory where she was mishandled and experimented on was a wish she never dared hope for, being alone in the swamps proves frightening and surprisingly lonely for Cayenne. Then there’s Trap. The GhostWalker she is drawn to, time and again. She doesn’t understand her emotions for him let alone the tingles and turmoil she feels inside when he’s near. But Trap is set on proving to Cayenne that while she might be dangerous to others, she won’t truly hurt him. She can only hope he’s right or it could prove deadly.

‘Trap. She whispered his name. Her nemesis. The man that made her want to be human. The man she wanted more than anything in the world but knew she couldn’t have.’

Spider Game was a sultry & seductive trip back to the bayou where we got to see Trap and Cayenne fall hard and fast for each other. It was a lot of fun to watch two equally intelligent, strong individuals learn to coexist, as well as learn how to compromise.

“I don’t take you for granted, Cayenne. You’re a fucking miracle to me. No one has ever made me feel like this. I haven’t had a home or a family of my own, not in a very long while. I never wanted a woman for my own until I laid eyes on you.”

Christine Feehan’s alpha guys strike again in this latest installment of the GhostWalkers series. Trap Dawkins was every bit the smart, talented and sexy guy he appeared to be when we caught glimpses of him in previous stories. I thought that, even though he was all alpha, he wasn’t quite as cavemanish as some other characters have been. (Not that I’ve minded…) Trap was definitely possessive and wanted his way, but I didn’t feel like his actions were purely selfish or too over the top. Thankfully, Cayenne warmed up to his alpha tendencies. But only after giving him a run for his money in terms of being strong-willed. 😉

Cayenne was a pretty cool blend of power and awkwardness. She was the human equivalent of a spider and had the venom and silk webs to harm/capture those who would hurt her. But she had lived in confinement her whole life so she didn’t have any discernible social skills or real world experience. I really could empathize with Cayenne and thought Feehan did a great job expressing those emotions and feelings she was having such a difficult time overcoming. And of course I laughed and just had to love the hard time she gave Trap, keeping him in his place. They also proved to be a great team when the time came to protect their friends and land, which led to some rocking action scenes.

With inventive, extremely hot love scenes, an attraction that couldn’t be broken, and that sense of family and camaraderie I’ve come to expect of the GhostWalkers, Spider Game was a paranormal romance that didn’t let go from page one.

4S Published January 26th 2016 | by Jove | GhostWalkers #12

In the new GhostWalker novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Viper Game, a trained killer meets his match in a woman whose very kiss can stop a heart.

The Cajun dive in the middle of the godforsaken swamps wasn’t exactly Trap Dawkins’ idea of fun. But the GhostWalker wasn’t there for a good time. He was looking for her. Cayenne. It’s where she found her victims. Poor suckers. Then again, who wouldn’t want to leave a place like this with a woman like her?

It’s not Cayenne’s fault. Locked up, experimented on and never knowing kindness, she was bred this way—with a heart of pure venom. Trap understands her. He survived his own dark past and he shares her desire for getting even. But now Trap’s greatest danger is Cayenne herself. Because what’s inside her is hard to control—especially when it’s aroused by a lover as reckless as Trap.

Good question! I think you could jump in with this book and learn the world of the GhostWalkers without too much trouble. It does mention previous couples–where they’re a tight knit group–but there’s enough info given for you to understand the characters.

Thanks, Linda! Feehan was new to me too until about a year or so ago and I’ve been devouring her stories ever since. I hope you fall for her alpha males and feisty heroines if you check out her books!
