Stealing Hearts by Erica Marks: The classic screw up… would she ever figure it out? The classic alpha, would he ever see her as more than someone to protect?
Lucy Waverly always managed to find trouble. Not that she meant to any more, she was an adult and thought maybe she had her life finally figured out. Just maybe she was doing things right. Too good to be true she guessed as she found herself driving to Magnolia Bay straight to her brother.
Mick Atwell was a wanderer. Ever since the “incident” he didn’t stay anywhere too long or let anyone get too close. So he was going to help his friend Tim open up his wine bar in Magnolia Bay and then it was off to Colorado to see what adventures he could find there.
When Lucy walked into the bar and saw Mick everything faded quickly, it was instant attraction, then the dawning that it was his friends little sister. Then Mick went into protection mode, as Lucy’s past creeps closer his protective instincts get stronger but so does the instinct to run. Will Lucy ever make it out of little sister column and into the potential mate column? Or will she be forever relegated to the protected?
Ms. Marks takes us back to Magnolia Bay with this quick-witted novella. Poor Mick isn’t too quick on the uptake emotionally but Lucy more than makes up for it. This is a fairly gentle read with some brief action in the forms of a henchman and an attack in the middle of the night.
The love story is almost soothing in a way though with friendship and an actual basis for the “love” piece of things to work out. Stealing Hearts by Erica Marks is a pick up read for someone looking for something quick, sweet and with a bit of an alpha male thrown in.

Bartender Mick Atwell has one more commitment before he leaves Magnolia Bay for Colorado: help his best friend, Tim, get his new wine bar POUR ready in time for its Valentine’s Day grand opening. But when Tim’s little sister Lucy breezes into town unexpectedly from New York for a visit, Mick doesn’t see how they’ll keep to their tight schedule—any more than he sees how this beautiful, spirited woman could possibly be the same irresponsible “kid” Tim has been complaining about for years…
Despite her carefree smile, Lucy Waverly hasn’t come back to Magnolia Bay for a vacation—she’s come home to hide. After discovering her boss at the gallery is selling forgeries, she needs to lay low and figure out a plan to get herself out of this dangerous mess—a plan which can’t include falling for her brother’s sexy best friend, no matter how safe he makes her feel, or how his smoldering eyes turn her inside out.
Mick has one foot out the door, but when Lucy’s troubles follow her to Magnolia Bay, they are thrust together to keep one step ahead of danger and get POUR open in time. Soon the man who lives by his plans is wondering if the woman who lives by chance may not be worth breaking his rules for.
