Stiletto Sisterhood by Fallon DeMornay: Singing the song of sisterhood loud and clear, this well delivered RomCom had heart in spades. Exploring the deep bonds between five spectacular young women who are chasing their dreams in their 20s, we are presented with some light touches on some meaty issues, and more importantly garner what it really means when women choose to love and support each other through thick and thin.

Focusing predominantly on Priya, a corporate lawyer fighting inner demons to be the best in her field and Isobel, who is humiliated by her fiancé and who loses her media job on the same day, we journey through their summer; Priya desperate to be mentored by her idol and Isobel trying to put the pieces of her life back together. For both, they draw on the strength of the group to chase down their dreams, even if it means falling apart or falling in love against their better judgement.

Whilst set up as a typical romcom, the central focus was in fact on the bond between women and despite having some saucy moments with Hadrian who was literally perfect and Isobel’s sneaky rebounder, it didn’t dwell on the romance and more-so the women finding strength in the group to do whatever they wanted and be who ever they were becoming was the hero. Without doubt, the central themes and narrative voices certainly shifted the generic elements to a sincerely healthy space where the focus wasn’t on men or their relationships but rather their ambitions and their individual love of their sisterhood.

Furthermore, all five women were incredibly different, and whilst it had dashes of Sex and the City, the unique characterisation gave it a poignant edge. For the most part though, it was a seamless read that had clever pacing and effective tension development. Ultimately, if you love a good office romance with great female characters and strong bonds between women, then this is definitely worth hooking into.

Priya Seth is determined to win the coveted one-year mentorship with her idol at New York’s hottest law firm. Her rival? Last night’s hookup, Hadrian Marek. Despite having a privileged upper hand, Hadrian is willing to form an alliance. Priya’s only condition? No sex.

Isobel Morgan is planning the perfect wedding, fighting to get the promotion she deserves, and caring for her dependent father. But when a video of her cheating fiancé goes viral, her world comes crashing down until she gets an offer that merges her passion for news and activism. The caveat? Long hours and travel away from her father.

As these young women discover that achieving dreams is often erratic, and drama is as inevitable as adulting, the foundation of their friendship begins to crack, putting their sisterhood to the test.
