In Suddenly Mine by Samantha Chase, Christian Montgomery has been burnt out for a while, trying to live up to his father’s high expectations. After learning that her life had been a lie and the whole town was in on it, she leaves Kansas for California, finding a job as a corporate nurse. The last person Christian expected to see while having a panic attack in his office was his new corporate nurse, Sophie, who also happened to be the woman he watched trying to surf every morning. Sophie teaches Christian how to relax and not work so much, but when tragedy strikes the Montgomery family, will Christian fall back to his old ways?
I’ve been waiting for Christian’s story for a while. From the previous books, it was clear he was under a lot of pressure and it was going to come to a head. I felt for him; he wanted nothing more than to make his father proud, but he never seemed to be good enough no matter how many deals he closed or how hard he worked. I was happy to see how Sophie changed him and inspired him to go out and find things to do that made him happy instead of worrying so much about his father’s expectations.
Raised by her grandmother, Sophie always believed that both her parents were killed in a car accident when she was almost three. Finding out that wasn’t entirely true, she goes to California to try to find herself. I liked how she always encouraged Christian. When she sees how much the Montgomery family tragedy changes him, she realizes that while Christian might no longer have a chance to make things right, she still has the chance to get the answers she needs from her own family.
Readers will get to see some of the other Montgomery’s in this book, and it was good to catch up with them and see Monica and Eliza attempting to play matchmakers again. Christian’s uncle, William, like in other books, is the voice of reason and steps up to be there for him when his father can’t.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen was what was in the will William handed to Christian. I would have liked to have seen if it included the answers that he had been looking for.
Readers are treated to an emotional rollercoaster with this book, but it’s worth it. If you’ve enojoyed the previous books in the series, you aren’t going to want to miss this one. If you’re new to the series, you can read this as a a standalone even though the members of the Montgomery family have been previously introduced in the prior books.

Christian Montgomery is burnt out. The family business is his entire world, and Christian has never stopped trying to atone for a mistake made years ago. His only break from grueling work is sitting on his beachfront deck, watching the California surfers, and wishing he could be that carefree.
Sophie Bennington was happy living in her small Kansas hometown…until she learned her entire life was a lie. So she hightailed it to the West coast, where she loves to surf, even though she’s no good at it, and she’s hoping to start a new career.
A chance encounter shows Christian and Sophie that no matter what happened in the past, the future is bright and new…but only if you have the courage to open your heart…
