REVIEW: Summer with the Millionaire by Jessica Gilmore

Summer with the Millionaire by Jessica Gilmore: Minty Davenport was in a bit of a spot. She wasn’t exactly the spoilt heiress she once was – she was successfully running her own business. But since that endeavour had been funded by her father, and her father was cutting her off 193024831(temporarily), she had little choice but to take an idea to Tuscany. Her shares in the gelato company would get her into the board meeting – now she just had to get past Luca Di Tore.

Luca was shocked to see Minty back in Italy after disappearing into thin air one summer. It just happened to be the summer they’d fought an attraction. He was hurt and felt abandoned, and wasn’t exactly jumping for joy to see her in his office – ready to jump into a business she’d never shown any interest in.

But Minty had plans. Plans that had Luca underestimating her until she saw them through. She met any challenge he threw at her, and gave it back in spades. Not just that, but her ideas were probably going to propel them with a bang into the global market – something he’d been working on already. He never thought she was dumb, but this new Minty was unexpected to say the least.

Minty and Luca were both different people now. More mature, more life experience behind them, more cynical even. So what harm could come of finally allowing their attraction to come to fruition? Working together, and staying under the same roof was too much temptation to bear. So after three failed engagements, Minty wants this temporary relationship. And Luca could use some of Minty’s free-spirited charm to lighten him up a bit.

A business trip and a spontaneous weekend vacation later and they’re both wondering if what they’re feeling isn’t just lust. Their ties go back to their early teens, and they know each other better than most. But Luca simply couldn’t accept Minty as she is. Nobody can – she knows that already. And Luca can’t give all of himself because everyone leaves. Including Minty.

Maybe the thing that holds them together can break the cycle once and for all.

I really enjoyed the story of Minty and Luca. I loved their characters and the backstories fleshed out in this book. Minty was a little shallow until she realized she had to buck up – but once she did, she had fortitude and strength. Luca went through a lot, but was an amazing CEO and boss – even if he had some flaws regarding his family.

When they came back together in Italy after a few years apart, they were hesitant to get close again. However, it was simply impossible because they just knew each other too well. I really dug the whole thing, but I would’ve liked it to be a tiny bit hotter. Great book if you like your stories more sweet than spicy.
