Sweet Talk by Cara Bastone: What was supposed to be a late night text to his sister to complain about his crippling insomnia soon turns into one of the most magical text threads with a complete stranger. Well not a complete stranger because JD seems to know exactly who Elliot is, the question is can Elliot figure out the identity of his mystery girl?

“Yeah, when we’re accepting the award for best relationship ever, we’ll definitely have to remember to thank insomnia for its indispensable role in getting us together.”

Sweet Talk was the perfect late night read to sooth the soul, I loved following these two characters on their journey in finding each other. I really liked that even though this was a romance the two main characters don’t actually meet until almost the end of the book. I loved the mystery element to Elliot and JD’s love story and that we got to see it play out from both of their perspectives.

Both of our main characters were really easy to love and relate to in their own way,  I really liked that they initially connected because of their insomnia but the more they chatted the more they shared. Elliot was such a cute male lead, he was more of a soft, sweet kind guy that had lost a bit of his nerves after facing a home intruder head on. I really liked getting to see him open up more and more to JD, especially when he told her about his dyslexia. Also it was really cute getting to see the side relationship between his sister and best friend develop.

As for JD, as much as I want to get into her character, it would give away way too much as that would spoil the entire suspense/mystery element of this book. I will say that these two played off each other perfectly and truly brought out the best in the other. I really liked that she wanted to help Elliot get past his fears and become more comfortable with himself again. It was also really nice getting to see her work on her relationship with her own family. Overall I loved that JD was such a strong, loyal and independent female lead.

In term of steam factor this wasn’t to high up there, instead I will say that this was a cute romance with a touch of slow burn, will they or won’t they? I did really like their connection and that Elliot didn’t hold back from sharing even embarrassing stories.

Sweet Talk has been an incredibly cute little romance that I would definitely recommend reading.

It’s officially booty o’clock, I’m alone again in my kitchen choking down a slice of terrible chocolate cake…and I’m pretty sure I just got drunk texted by the man I have a ginormous crush on.

I’ve been daydreaming about Eliot Hoffman’s dimples for two months, and even though I’m sure this was a mistake on his end, it doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity on mine. It’s the middle of the night, and I just wanna talk to him. So I text him back.

And then somehow we keep talking…ALL NIGHT. We’re both insomniacs, so talking all night soon turns into talking EVERY night.

And talking about nothing soon turns into talking about something.

And here we go from in-depth analysis of reality TV to my relationship with my family to his amazing artwork. There’s no topic we don’t cover…

Except for who I really am. It’s the only question of his I won’t answer.

As my crush turns into an avalanche of Eliot, I think of him all the time now. But if he knew who I was, the entire house of cards we’ve built this relationship on would come toppling down. I want him to be mine, but we might never be more than just a sweet dream….

Great review! I am a big fan of Cara Bastone, but haven’t had a chance to read her 2 books that started out in audio and are now in print. Looking forward to catching up!
