Taking-ChargeTaking Charge by Ruth Cardello: While Lucy may have grown up on the family ranch, she couldn’t wait to trade in her cowboy boots for living in a city. Now after losing her parents and her brother taking off, she’s left to try to save the family ranch on her own. After trusting the wrong person, Lucy is determined to save the ranch even if it means selling high tech sex toys. She’s smart, independent, and has a knack for marketing.

David is a cowboy with a great reputation. He’s known for being kind, generous, and helping out others. When asked by a mutual friend to help out Lucy, David immediately heads to the rescue. He finds a broken woman who is determined to make it on her own and without a man, thank you very much. Except David fell and fell hard from their very first meeting. He can’t just walk away.

She laid one hand flat on the table beside her plate. “First, you need to stop looking at me like I’m an item on the menu, and you’re hungry.”
It took all the control David had not to smile at that. “I will if you promise to do the same.”

David and Lucy have great chemistry. Lucy is most definitely drawn to the sexy cowboy even though she wants nothing to do with romance and relationships. While getting more advice than wanted on how to woo the reluctant Lucy, David makes the most of living on Lucy’s ranch to convince her how right they could be together.

The longer he was quiet, the more nervous she became. Finally, in a rush, she said, “Taken out of context-”
He placed a hand on either side of her hips and leaned down so his mouth hovered above hers. “Don’t backpedal, Lucy. You didn’t say anything we both don’t already know.” His eyes twinkled with humor. “Except the last part. That was a surprise, one I liked.”

Taking Charge is a sweet yet sexy and heartwarming romance. Ruth Cardello provided a great hero in David who was persistent yet patient. Ms. Cardello provided interesting secondary characters in their friends. Taking Charge can be read as a standalone in the Lone Star Burn series. Fans of Vicki Lewis Thompson and Lisa Bingham will enjoy Taking Charge.
