In Tempted by Dr. Patera (Hot Greek Docs #2) by Tina Beckett, Dr. Deakin Patera never thought he’d return home to Mythelios, but when an earthquake hits his home country and causes plenty of destruction, he knows the people of Mythelios need his skills as a doctor. However, he never imagined he’d find a reason to stay until he meets Dr. Lea Rosi. Will he convince Lea to take a chance on him or are the pair too haunted by their past demons to ever have a chance at happy ever after?

Something touched her hand. “Hey. Are you okay?”
“Yes.” She forced herself to smile. “I’m just tired. And I forgot to ask who you are.”
“Of course. Sorry, I just always assume that everyone knows who I am.” Something dark slithered through his brown eyes. Then it was gone as quickly as it had come.

I have become a fan of Ms. Beckett’s medical romances and this is the best one I’ve read yet. Really, everything about this story was captivating from the wonderful main characters to the riveting dialogue to the fast-paced and entertaining plot. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time that had me completely hooked, as the heroine feels a little foolish but still manages to overcome her surprise to the hero’s presence. Certainly, no one thought Deakin would ever return to Mythelios after what happened to him.

As for the dialogue, it was very entertaining due to the main characters back stories because both have known loss and it’s not easy for either to put their trust in another person. Deakin bares scars of his loss while the heroine needed to escape her home in order to heal from hers. Why did her fiancée do what he did? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked how determined she is to help people because she feels such guilt over not being able to help someone she loved. I also liked how kind and caring she is and how she helps the hero to push past the guilt he’s felt for years over what happened. It wasn’t his fault.

”I doubt that. She’s going to welcome you like a long-lost son.”
Ares glanced around. “She’ll be the only one, from the looks of it. My secret agent disguise is evidently working. At least for now. Maybe I’ll keep this look for a while.”
“Be prepared to be arrested for vagrancy, then.”
“That bad?”
“I would say I’ve seen worse, but…”
“Funny.”

While the hero, I could understand why he’s so reluctant to head home to Mythelios after what happened in his past, but I liked that he was willing to do anything to help the townspeople after the earthquake. No way could he let his good friend Theo down. I also liked the tight friendship he shares with his best friends in Theo and Ares. Certainly, they love to tease each other and made the story fun whenever they were in each other’s company. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is the decisions he makes because he needs to heal from his past in order to have a chance at happy ever after with the heroine. Will he make the right decisions the first time around? Will he be able to win over the heroine?

”Regretting that promise already?”
“Oh, no. Not at all.”
“That’s good – because neither am I. In fact as soon as I catch my breath I think I’ll be ready for the second course.”
“Second?” Her lips curved. “How many courses are there in this particular feast?”
“I would say it’s open-ended. There can be as few or as many as we want.”

Overall, Ms. Beckett has delivered an absolutely entertaining read in this book where the main characters back stories tugged at my heartstrings; the chemistry between this couple was powerful and just kept getting stronger the more they interacted; the romance was delightful and had me loving that Deakin and Lea gave each other a chance; and the ending had me loving that these two were willing to do whatever it takes to make things right between them, especially after how their relationship goes awry. Would the heroine be able to forgive the hero? However, what I loved most was the beautiful words the hero has for the heroine. I would recommend Tempted by Dr. Patera, if you enjoy the mysterious strangers trope or books by authors Annie O’Neil, Amalie Berlin, Amy Ruttan and Susan Carlisle.
