The Best Laid Plans by Amy Vastine: Emma has her life mapped out but she learns that life happens when you’re the-best-laid-plans-picmaking plans. She is a compassionate nurse working at a hospital. She wishes to marry a doctor and is delighted when a new cute doctor is hired. Her plans seem to be on track. However, things get complicated when her sister Kendall becomes engaged to a man named Max.

As maid of honor, she takes on planning the wedding with the best man, Max’s friend and neighbor Charlie. Charlie is a paramedic who has a mad crush on Emma. The two begin to spend a lot of time together, both planning the wedding and at work. As feelings develop, this seems to put a wrench in Emma’s plans but she still remains focused on marrying a doctor. After one of Charlie’s friends is severely hurt in a car wreck, the two grow even closer. Can a wedding finally bring these two together?

Charlie is a good guy. He is close to his family, is a good friend, and is passionate about his work. Emma learns to be less rigid. She has lessons to learn, like spontaneity, living in the moment. She needs to learn to open her eyes to what is in front of her. “I fell in love with him and it was real. The kind that makes you fall asleep thinking about him and wake up hoping you’re going to see him that day.”

The Best Laid Plans flowed well and I enjoyed it. All the characters were likeable and I enjoyed the progression of the romance between Emma and Charlie. I recommend The Best Laid Plans to anyone looking for a sweet romance.

She planned on falling in love. Just not with him!

Emma Everhart’s life is going according to plan. Finish nursing school with flying colours… Check. Get a great job in the ER… Check. Marry a handsome doctor and have two babies, three years apart… Not quite yet. But with a dreamy new doctor joining the hospital staff, she’s so close she can almost taste the wedding cake. Now is not the time to let the tall, dark and flirtatious paramedic Charlie Fletcher distract her! He may be the best date and best kiss she’s ever had, but he’s definitely not part of her plan. No matter how he makes her feel…

We don’t always fall in love with who we think we will. Sounds like a good story.
