The Best Man for the Job by Lucy King: Celia figured she’d almost gotten out of the thing she’d dreaded most. Seeing Marcus again. He very nearly missed her brother’s wedding, which would mean she wouldn’t have to be escorted down the aisle on his arm. But there he was – right at the last minute – probably leaving women in his wake. And ready to make her day that much worse.
Marcus knew it was all kinds of wrong to still be completely attracted to his best friend’s sister, Celia. In fact, after all these years, he’d never stopped. But after the night he wrongly made a pass at her and then screwed it up royally, they’d been at each other’s throats. It was almost a relief – it meant he never had to worry that she’d want him back, unless what the new bride said was right – then he’d have to find out for himself.
Marcus calls a truce to Celia’s great surprise, and they actually have a civil conversation at her brother’s wedding. Of course, they never should have had it in private. Being alone without the defenses up led to all sorts of inappropriate behaviour. Stuff that should never – and they mean *never* – be repeated. And then there were the repercussions…
Eventualities from that steamy encounter make Celia and Marcus re-evaluate their priorities. Celia has always been a workaholic – focused so much on making partner in her firm that she never has a private life. But is the reason she wants to make partner for her own benefit, or for some phantom reason that she can never fulfill?
Marcus has his own issues with love and commitment, but they were just about wiped away by Celia. It seemed like every time she issued a wordless challenge, his brain decided it wasn’t much of a hurdle to overcome. He would be there to support her – no matter what she decided. Even if it wasn’t what Marcus wanted. After all, he considered this mess his fault – and the fault of his teeth.
I enjoyed this book – although it seemed like a jumble of tropes. Best friend’s sister? Check. Long ago rejection after a misunderstanding? Check. The leads hate each other as foreplay? Check. One tumble leads to pregnancy? Check. They’re still attracted yet decide not to consummate? Check. Workaholic female trying to earn daddy’s respect? SUPER-CHECK. There are actually a few more, but I’ll stop there.
I mean, they’re all there in spades, but it’s not a horrible book by a long-shot. It was an easy read, and I enjoyed the characters. I just wasn’t blown away. And there’s also a hot button topic of abortion addressed, I didn’t find it to be invasive. However, I can see where it might be divisive. So I have to give it a 3.5, It’s a solid middle-of-the-road read.

The wedding guest from her past…
For Celia Forrester, Marcus Black–her brother’s best friend–was always totally off-limits. Especially after The Night That Nearly Happened. It was years ago, but Celia remembers it for all the worst reasons! But now, Marcus is back in the picture–he’s the best man at her brother’s wedding and more gorgeous than ever!
It’s all kinds of inappropriate, but giving in to temptation looks like the best way for Celia to get Marcus out of her system. But their one night comes with consequences. And this time, it won’t be fifteen years until they have to face them…but nine months!
