The Boyfriend Goal by Lauren Blakely: Josie has recently just moved across the country to start her life as the librarian for one of San Fransisco’s municipal libraries, the last thing she expected was to find herself getting locked out of her besties apartment on her very first day in the big city, and while wearing bedroom slippers and next to nothing else! If this wasn’t cringe enough she runs into easily the hottest and most charming stranger on her way to find her roommate, somewhere between her fluffy bedroom slippers, longing looks at an ice cream stand and a few flirty comments, Josie finds herself sharing one incredible night with her mysterious hottie. However the real shock kicks in when Josie learns her steamy one night stand was with no other than her brothers teammate, professional hockey player Wes, who also so happens to be her new roomie! Ever the rule follower, Josie is determined to keep things between them stickily friends only, however this is beginning to prove a lot harder in practice seeing as Wes is determined to woo the pants right of Josie with all of his flirty words and kind gestures… the question is, is their chemistry just to strong to deny?

I am a true sucker for the sports romance trope and add in the fact that this was a brothers teammate romance and I was totally sold! Let me just tell you as with all of her books Blakely does not fail to deliver an incredibly addictive novel that is filled with humour, heart, steam and such loveable characters. I really liked the fact that this book touched on more than just love and finding happiness, Blakely highlights the changes that come with dealing with grief and how to move on while not forgetting the person, I have to say I really liked the way she depicted Josie’s relationship with her grandmother. Truly it was hard to find a fault with this incredible book, I mean when Blakely combines the forced proximity, forbidden romance, brothers teammate and one nightstand turned roommates tropes into one deliciously addictive read, what more could a girl ask for?

I really found myself liking Josie, not only was she an incredible leading lady but I really enjoyed her character growth. We get to see her making a move to live a more for filling life and really stepping out of her comfort zone. I just loved that she was so determined and knew what she wanted and was ready to go out there and get it, but in true librarian fashion, Josie did her research and didn’t rush into anything. I really enjoyed getting to see her for filling her grandmothers wish list and this giving her the much needed push in life. As for our hero, well Wes was all about hockey that is until he meets Josie. Gosh was she just the woman to put life into perspective for him. I loved how smitten he was with her and the fact that he was not overly pushy in his pursuit to woo her. Aside from being a total charmer, I loved getting to see Wes interact with his family and uncovering his relationship with her father and seeing his sister be all nosy.

“You’re strong. Must be all those assets you lift.”
“You’re quick with that mouth. Must be all those books you read,”

The chemistry between Josie and Wes was just perfection. These two were clearly made for each other and I just could not get enough of them as a couple. I loved all their banter and the spicy moments that were plentiful. The thing I loved the most about their relationship was how supportive of each other they were, sometimes even when it meant they would get hurt.

The Boyfriend Goal was an incredible read, this book sets the scene for what I am sure is to be another one of Blakely’s hit series. With so many more incredible hockey hotties that desperately need their own books, I cant not wait to dive right back in the world of the Sea Dogs. Until then I highly recommend reading The Boyfriend Goal this is pure sports romance gold!

Book Info:

Publication: August 22, 2024 | Lauren Blakely Books | Love and Hockey #1

A forbidden romance with my brother’s hockey-playing teammate wasn’t on my to-do list when I moved across the country.

Neither was getting locked out of a friend’s place wearing next to nothing.
Or spending the night with the sexy stranger who rescues me.
But I’m trying to get out of my comfort zone so getting out of the rest of my clothes with him seems like a good way to start.
In the morning, I learn the filthy-mouthed man with the talented hands is not only the hotshot new hockey player on my brother’s team: he’s also – wait for it – my brand new roommate.
I’m a good student turned good librarian. A rule-follower. I’m not the kind of girl who does complicated flings. So we agree to another rule: friends-only.
It’s not easy though. Wes is bossy, flirty and generous.
He gives me rides to work.
Pitches in at my library’s fundraiser.
Takes care of me when I get hurt.
And looks at me like I’m the only one.
Soon, I’m falling hard for my brother’s teammate.
Especially when Wes comes to my door and tells me exactly how he’d like to break our rules.
Every single one.
