In The Cowboy’s Baby by D’Ann Lindun, after the death of her grandmother, Cat O’Brien went back to Granite, Colorado to sell the house and everything she inherited, but once there she decided to stay and get a job at the local school there. Only in Granite there remain the memories of the things that happened and broke her heart to the point she has not been able to move on with her life.

As Cat finishes her Halloween decorations and waits for the kids trick-or-treating, she faces a horrible storm by herself in the old house. Only to hear the bell ring and hoping to find a kid she finds herself faced with the daughter she was forced to give away seventeen years ago. And now her daughter is facing her same situation, expecting a child of her own and not wanting to give it away, only to have her adoptive parents give her an ultimatum of either giving the baby away or getting out of their house.

Tanner Burke is out with his daughter trick-or-treating, until his daughter turns in to the street where Cat’s grandmother used to live. He believes the house to be empty but when he sees lights there he is stunned to find Cat there, and more so when he sees whom he obviously recognizes as his daughter. He believes that Cat has been hiding the fact that she knew where their daughter was, until he finds out that Eve had just arrived and the reason why she is there.

Cat and Tanner will face the same dilemma they had seventeen years before of whether Eve should give the baby away or keep it. But Cat knows the pain that giving your baby away can bring, for she has lived with that pain every day since the day they took her daughter away after she was born and didn’t even let Cat see her or touch her.

Now Tanner and Cat will face the same old arguments and fights, only the old love they had will return from where it was kept hidden for so many years. But with them being on opposite sides things will not be simple. Plus Tanner not only has a younger daughter, but also a half-brother he needs to help straighten out before he goes completely off the rails.

Both Tanner and Cat will have to learn to compromise, listen and be more understanding if they want to be able to become the family they cold have been once, and if they don’t want to lose their daughter Eve once again and this time with their grandchild.

I really liked the plot of this story, it shows two different sides of what giving a baby away can be like for different people. The depth of the love that Cat has for her daughter is amazing, for the pain she suffered after being forced to give Eve away not only kept her from moving on to another relationship, but also from wanting any other children. To the point that she became a teacher and was living in the city where she has told the family who adopted her daughter lived, in the hopes that she would one day see her. Tanner could be a bit of a hardhead, but I liked that he knew how to discipline his child and his sibling to keep them from ruining their lives, only thing that drove me insane was that he would not see any other side but his own on certain things.

If you want a heartwarming, sweet and quite entertaining read, don’t miss The Cowboy’s Baby by D’Ann Lindun.
