The Dark King by Gina L. Maxwell: A free trip to the luxurious Nightfall hotel and casino in Las Vegas is just the thing Bryn Meara needs to escape the miserable state that is her career, but she definitely did not expect to wake up after a night of martini fuelled debauchery to find that she is married… and to non other than billionaire bad boy and Nightfall owner Caiden Verran. However not everything is how it appears and Bryn is about to get a crash course in the working of the Nigh Court, seeing as her new husband is not only a billionaire bad boy but also the Fae King. Thrown into a whole new world of shadows, sins, lust and oh so much power the only thing Bryn should want is to high tail it out of this dark world but she can’t help but find herself being drawn closer and closer to Caiden with each nigh of passion…so much so that she is no longer sure if she even really wants to leave her Fae King and his sinister world of pain and pleasure.
“I feel as though I started loving you the moment I took my first breath, and I’ll love you more each night until I take my last. You are forever my king, in this life and the next.”
Oh sweet book Gods, The Dark King was pure addictive goodness!! This was the type of book that was just impossible to put down, it was so addictive! I will say that I was not to sure if the entire fantasy element would work for me but let me just tell you holly mackerel did it work! There was something so incredibly delectable about Caiden and Bryn’s story that has pretty much guaranteed that I will be coming back for the next part to The Deviant Kings series! I loved that this was a fast paced read that pulled you in right from the get go and you just can’t help but fall deeper into the story as it goes.
Bryn was a great leading lady, I loved that she was so human in her feelings and that this helped keep that element of relatability to the book. More than anything I loved that she was so feisty and that she was always ready to give it back to Caiden just as strong as he dealt it. For all her witty banter and sassy attitude I really enjoyed getting to see her grow as an individual as the story progressed. Now for our Fae King… well let me just say he was a swoon fest! There is definitely something about the dark mysterious hero that always gets me and this was Caiden down to a tee. I loved just about everything about his character and that he was this powerful king but he still listened and took the opinions of his subjects to heart. I really loved getting to see all the different sides to Caiden and learning that he was such a romantic softie beneath his tough dark exterior. I just loved getting to see things through his perspective and the intense pull that he felt too Bryn, reading things from his side only made me love this character all the more!
The passion in this book was next level hot! I’m talking about giving Fifty Shades of Grey a run for their money in the steam department! Let me just say this is definitely not a work safe book! I just ate up the connection between Bryn and Caiden, their chemistry was of the charts hot and the pull they felt to each other only made rooting them on all the more easy. I loved their playful banter and that they were each others escape. If ever there was a couple that was made for each other it would be these two, they balanced each other but also brought out the best in each other, simply put they were electric. I really liked that even though Bryn respected Caiden as the King, she still treated him like a normal man, like her husband. I really liked that even though in private Bryn would submit to Caiden he always made sure to empower her in their everyday.
The secondary characters in this book were absolutely brilliant! I really liked that all the people in Caiden’s inner circle were there to help and welcome Bryn. I really liked getting to see the whole found family trope play out. I can not wait to get my hands on more of this family, both of Caiden’s brothers were a hoot and hold so much promise for books of their own! I loved the easy banter that flowed between the brothers and all the laugh out loud moments that followed.
The Dark King is amust read! This scorching hot BDSM fuelled fantasy romance was an addictive page turner from start to end! I can not wait to see what Maxwell has planned for next!
