In The Doctor’s Marriage for a Month by Annie O’Neil , Isla MacLeay’s island vacation turns into a nightmare. Luckily, handsome doctor Diego Rodriguez comes to her rescue, even if his method is rather unconventional. He expects her to marry him and stay on the island for a month all to save her life as well as her father’s. However, Isla never expected to fall in love, especially after the disaster of her last relationship. Will the heroine give love another chance or will she walk away before she gets hurt?

Her eyes lasered across the collection of men who had now finally dropped their weapons. “No one here seems to have a polite bone in their body. I hope you’re planning on breaking the mold. A medical kit and a fourteen or sixteen gauge needle wouldn’t go awry either.”

What a fantastic and entertaining read Ms. O’Neil has delivered in this book, which started off with a very tense situation that had me a little bit worried for the heroine. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time where this story really gets interesting because Diego needs to find a way to get Isla out of the trouble they’ve found themselves in. Will Diego be able to keep Isla safe?

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and the trouble the heroine finds herself in that the hero has an unconventional answer to making better for her; an unconventional answer that it seems she has no choice but to agree to. Will Isla put her trust in Diego? Moreover, I really liked the hero and heroine. The heroine is resilient, courageous, smart, driven and I liked how determined she was to help the hero with all he does for the place where he lives. I also liked how the heroine handled herself when she found herself in a tricky situation like she was in the beginning. While the hero, he’s smart, passionate when it comes to his work as a doctor, worked hard to get to where he is in his life after all that he’s been through and I liked how determined he was to help people, most especially the heroine.

”You travel light.”
She bristled. “I wasn’t strictly preparing for a month of captivity.” She threw him a haughty look. “If I’d known I would’ve packed my ball gowns and tiara.”
Diego arched an eyebrow. “I’m sure we can rustle up something slightly more appropriate for the wife of one of the island’s most prominent doctors than ball gowns or scrubs.”

Overall, Ms. O’Neil has delivered an interesting and engaging read in this book where the obstacles these two face to be together are tough, but I loved that they achieved their happy ever after; the chemistry was strong and only got stronger the more time these two spent together; the romance was delightful and had me hoping for the best for this pair, considering their marriage was only to last for a month; and the ending had me liking how Diego was determined to fight for their relationship because Isla is the best person to come into his life. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because of how much good they’ve done for El Valderon. I would recommend The Doctor’s Marriage for a Month by Annie O’Neil, if you enjoy the marriage of convenience trope, the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Amy Ruttan, Tina Beckett, Amalie Berlin and Meredith Webber.
