The Fifteen-Minute Rule by Max Monroe: Ace and Julia have been inseparable since… well forever. They are best friends, partners in crime and masters
of their very own fifteen-minute rule: whenever they argue, they have fifteen minutes to cool off before making up. It sounds simple… until it isn’t. Because sometimes fifteen minutes isn’t nearly enough time to deal with years of unspoken feelings, lingering crushes and the chaotic mess that is real life. While Ace might be a total charmer with anyone else, when it comes to Julia… well he is a bit clueless. And Julia? Well she is pretty awesome in her own right and has the patience of a saint… but even the most patient person has a breaking point and Julia’s is fast approaching… Which is how they find themselves in this situation, now that Ace has finally realised that what he’s felt all along is more than friendship. With the rules tossed so far out the window, what follows is a whirlwind of laughter, awkward moments and finally realising that happily ever after is sometimes a lot closer that we expect.
There are some books that entertain you and then there are the ones that completely steal your heart The Fifteen‑Minute Rule definitely fell into the steal my heart category. As always Max Monroe have created an unforgettably cute romcom with Ace and Julia. Right from the very first chapter I was hooked, they had me laughing, swooning and occasionally wanting to shake a certain someone for taking so long to figure things out. With its perfect blend of humour, heart and slow-burn tension these two had me completely invest from start to end! Also if you are anything like me and have been following Max Monroe from the beginning then you definitely know getting to see baby Tatcher (Ace) and baby Brooks (Julia) all grown up and in love is bound to be a treat filled with giggles and some interesting appearances from their parents!
Ace was charming, confident and effortlessly magnetic. He was the kind of guy who seems to breeze through life with a grin on his face and a joke ready for any occasion. But beneath that easy confidence was someone who struggles to recognise his own feelings, especially when it comes to Julia. And this only made his journey of finally learning to read his own feelings all the more delicious and precious to follow. Julia on the other hand was steady, thoughtful and quietly strong. She was the grounding force in Ace’s chaotic world, the one who has always been there even when he doesn’t fully realise just how much she means to him. I loved how patient she was with him and that she really waited for him to have that ah ha moment after all this time. Watching Ace slowly come to terms with what Julia truly means to him, while Julia wrestled with protecting her heart, created a dynamic that felt both tender and painfully real. It’s that emotional depth, layered with humour and vulnerability, that makes their story so engaging and unputdownable.
One of the reasons that this book was such a hit for me was how natural and genuine the connection between Ace and Julia felt. Their connection wasn’t built on instant attraction or dramatic declarations but on years of friendship, shared history and the quiet comfort of knowing someone better than anyone else. The build-up worked so well because the shift from friendship to something more happened gradually, layered in with tension, hesitation and plenty of emotional stakes, making their journey feel real, nerve wrecking and relatable. Ace’s slow realisation that Julia has always been more than just his best friend adds a beautiful sense of longing, while Julia’s struggle to protect her heart makes every step forward feel meaningful.
Simply put I loved this book, there was not a single thing about Ace and Julia that I did not find myself loving. The Fifteen Minute Rule was the kind of story that reminds you why you love the friends-to-lovers trope in the first place, it was full of longing, laughter and characters you can’t help but root for. And honestly this book only cemented something I already suspected anything written by Max Monroe is an instant read for me! And should be for you too!

Flawless plan, right? Wrong.
