The Honorable Army Doc by Emily Forbes: When Dr. Quinn Daniels is at a conference to give a lecture, he sees a woman in red and is instantly captivated by her exotic beauty. She seems as drawn to him as he is to her, and they share a drink. But he is pulled away almost instantly, and the connection is lost, seemingly forever…

Dr. Alisha Jansson is captivated by Quinn Daniels and his piercing eyes, but when they’re parted unexpectedly, she knows it’s for the best. She’s resigned herself to a life of work and singledom, but what a night it could have been…

Ali is prepared to meet the Doctor her mother has gotten to fill in for her as she takes a week’s sabbatical, but she would never have guessed it would be the army doctor with whom she shared a drink those months ago. He’s on leave caring for his ailing ex-wife, and work is what he needs to fill his time to keep his hands and mind busy. He says she’s what he needs, but he has no idea what he’s getting into.

Quinn knows it’s more than fate that brought him to the Jansson’s clinic. When he sees Ali again, he feels soothed, calm, like he can face anything. caring for his ex-wife and twin daughters is more than he’d bargained for, but perhaps he can handle it if he can also have Ali. He knows he was never the husband and father he could have been, and now’s not the time to make up for it – he just has to let his daughters know he’s there for him and show his ex-wife they’ll be cared for.

But there’s more to life than fate and comfort. There are secrets, and heartache, and life & death. Both Quinn and Ali have seen them all, can they come out the other side unscathed? Of course not. Nobody can. Perhaps they can help to make the path easier – for themselves and the people around them.

This book had something I usually don’t care for – insta-love. I’m iffy about it in this case. I think the protagonist was in a bad place, and perhaps should have taken a bit more time to examine it before following through, but again – it’s a book and that wouldn’t have made for a great story.

I really loved that we got a chapter from Julianne’s (the ex-wife’s) perspective, and learning about the twins was also very sweet. Really, the only issue I had was that I had trouble connecting with the main characters due to the rapidity of their fall into love, but otherwise the story was pretty solid. A tear-jerker for sure – but worth a read if you’ve got the time.

Could she be the one to heal this ex-soldier’s heart?

Dr. Quinn Daniels is instantly hooked by Dr. Alisha Jansson’s exotic beauty. Only the rugged army captain knows he’s not relationship material–his situation is complicated enough as he prepares for life as a single parent to his twin daughters. But his honorable intention to stay away is tested when he has to work with Ali! Her natural warmth lands her a special place in his daughters’ lives, but Quinn can also see a sadness clouding those hypnotic eyes. Can these two bruised hearts find happiness together?
