REVIEW: The Mistletoe Trap by Cindi Madsen

The Mistletoe Trap by Cindi Madsen is the second book in her Heart in the Game series. This book is full of Christmas fun, crazy family stunts, and over-the-top matchmaking. Oh! And lots of mistletoe!

Julie and Gavin have been friends since they were in diapers. The proof of that is the picture of the two of them in diapers on the beach together which is prominently displayed in the homes of both sets of parents. Julie has shared all her ups and downs in life with Gavin. No one has ever had a better best friend. Yes, they are best friends despite both families, especially their moms, pushing them toward more than friends. It’s Christmastime and here she is home in Colorado for the holidays.

Due to some flooding in her family’s house she is staying with Gavin’s family. She is looking forward to spending time with Gavin since they never see each over much any more. Julie has a pathology lab job in Arizona and Gavin is the quarterback for the NFL San Antonio Mustangs. Both are super busy. This year the families have really upped their efforts to pair her and Gavin up as a couple. Maybe she should consider how she really feels about Gavin.

Gavin Frost was the backup quarterback for his previous team. Now in the first year with the San Antonio Mustangs he is the team’s starting quarterback. Due to a shoulder injury sustained in a game shortly before Christmas his visit home has been extended an extra few days to rest and rehab his shoulder. He will miss the next game but hopes to be back in playing shape if the Mustangs make the playoffs.

Gavin is really looking forward to seeing his best friend Julie. With their busy schedules it has been a while since they’ve seen each other. He knows they both have the family matchmaking shenanigans set for the two of them to get through. Their families just won’t give it up. He and Julie are best friends. He doesn’t want to ever mess that up.

I enjoyed this friends to lovers storyline. Julie and Gavin are fun characters and their realization that there is more than friendship in their future was fun to read about. I like this author’s writing style. She always manages to make me smile with her Happily Ever Afters.

From the moment Julie sees her best friend, Gavin, in the airport, it’s like no time at all has gone by instead of months and months. No matter how long they’ve been apart, their relationship has always been steady, comfortable, and decidedly just friends. Even though their meddling parents have hung what seems like unlimited amounts of mistletoe everywhere she goes this holiday season, Julie knows some things will never change.

Gavin is well-aware his family’s wanted him and Julie to get together since forever, even though he’s been friend-zoned since they could talk—and he’s been happy to play that role. After all, as the new starting quarterback for the San Antonio Mustangs, he’s got enough on his plate without adding romance to the mix.

But between playing elves in the holiday bazaar to nights spent one-on-one watching rom-coms or soaking in their town’s hot springs, suddenly the “reverse parent trap” they’ve fallen into is actually starting to work. But this could be one scheme where letting themselves get trapped might be way too dangerous.
