In The Nurse’s Pregnancy Miracle by Ann McIntosh, Nychelle Cory is desperate to have a baby, so she decides IVF is the best way for it to happen, especially when she doesn’t want another man in her life after her cheating ex. However, she never imagined she’d find someone she clicked with so easily and finds it hard to ignore David Warmington — the man all the nurses call ‘Dr Heat’. Will Nychelle take a chance on David or will she walk away from her shot at happiness to raise her baby alone?

“Hormones running rampant, as you men are quick to point out.”
That brought a wider smile, and Nychelle laughed quietly, before turning away from the magnetic pull of his grin. “I won’t tell anyone you said something so blatantly sexist, Nurse Cory. It’ll be our secret.”

This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. McIntosh and I’ve got to say that I was absolutely charmed by her writing. Her characters were entertaining, the dialogue a wonderful combination of intense moments due to the main characters back stories and the medical emergencies these two face and playful banter that had me enjoying the growing relationship between these two that goes a long way to helping the pair heal from the wounds of their pasts.

The way this story started drew me in immediately because of the heroine and her desire to be a single mom. Who needs a man after what her ex did? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous and I liked that she pursued something that she was passionate about when it came to her career instead of doing what her parents wanted her to do. Not that it doesn’t hurt to hear how they talk about her because of her choices and I liked that the hero stood up for her when her father launched into how much of a disappointment she is. I also liked that the heroine followed her heart and was determined to become a mom, even knowing what her parents would say. Guess it’s just another thing for them to be disappointed about when it comes to her life.

“Hey, I promised not to say another word.”
“Oh, you…you…”
“Careful, Nurse Cory.” He gave her a stern look, knowing his twitching lips gave away his amusement. “Let’s not sully that sweet, professional disposition everyone talks about.”
“Ha!” Turning up her nose, she replied, “At least no one at work calls me like Dr. Heat.”

While the hero, he’s been through a lot and I could understand why he’s determined to remain single after everything that happened with his ex. How could he fail so badly as a doctor? Then again, what happened wasn’t his fault. Furthermore, he’s confident, charming and I loved how he treats Nychelle. Since she’s never had anyone care for her and make her feel like she’s good enough. I also liked the close relationship he has with his family, even though it feels like he’s the odd one out since he took a different route in life than his parents imagined for him. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero was his determination to defend the heroine’s choice in life because her job is just as important as his and the ones her parents have. Really, in his eyes, her job is even more important.

“I understand. I never meant to hurt you. I would have never done it on purpose.”
The look he gave her was one of tenderness, and the softening of his face was so dramatic her heart leaped. “Don’t you think I know that?” He took another step closer, reached out to sweep a finger over her cheek. “You’re the kindest, most amazing woman I’ve ever met. I know the last thing you’d want to do is hurt anyone. It’s one of the things I love most about you.”

Overall, Ms. McIntosh has delivered a wonderful read in this book that made me smile because of the interactions between the hero and heroine; the chemistry between this couple was strong and just kept getting stronger the more they interacted; the romance was delightful and shows these two are ready to trust again; and the ending had me loving the hero’s words because he isn’t about to let his fears continue to rule his life. Certainly, it’s time he fights for what he wants instead of letting his fears hold him back. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as there’s so much to be happy about in life for this couple. I would recommend The Nurse’s Pregnancy Miracle by Ann McIntosh, if you enjoy the surprise pregnancy trope or books by authors Meredith Webber, Charlotte Hawkes, Kate Hardy and Alison Roberts.
