In The Schemer (Harbor City #3) by Avery Flynn, Tyler Jacobsen isn’t sure whether he wants to kiss or strangle Everly Ribinski every time he interacts with her. However, when he discovers she knows someone he’s been hoping to become one of his clients, he’ll do anything to win her over so she’ll help him. However, the closer he and Everly get, the more Tyler finds himself falling for the gorgeous woman. Will Tyler be able to convince Everly to take a chance on him, or will her dark past never allow her to give them a shot at happy ever after?

=”Your vice couldn’t be underwater basket weaving?”
“And miss out on my salsa practice to the beat of you pounding a broom against your ceiling? Where’s the fun in that?” Yeah, but he deserved it after this stunt.
“I expect an answer like that from a woman who believes in the healing power of art and always wears head-to-toe black probably right down to your panties that are always in a twist,” he scoffed.=

What an enchanting, fast-paced, wonderful read Ms. Flynn has delivered in this third book of her Harbor City series where there are two couples that achieve happy ever after; and the main characters kept me entertained from start to finish with amusing banter and fascinating back stories that had me hoping that the heroine would take a chance on Tyler, despite the fact that she believes men can’t be trusted. The way this story started had me liking the heroine immediately due to Everly’s sassiness and the fact that she gets under the hero’s skin. Will Tyler be able to win over Everly?

=”Look, know it was wrong, but after our awful beginning, well, things didn’t seem to ever improve.” He ran his hand through his hair again. The poor man would be bald at this rate. He shrugged and offered, “Would you believe there just never was a right time that wouldn’t make you uncomfortable?”
He seemed sincere, but her mama didn’t raise no fool. “I’ll concede you might be telling the truth, but I reserve judgment to bust your balls about this later.”=

As for the main characters, both were incredible and I loved every interaction between them, as Everly is sassy, loyal, determined to stand up for what she believes is right and I loved that she gave the hero a chance, despite having seen what her mother went through with her father and believing that Tyler might be the same as her dad. Yet, I liked that he proved her wrong in not being a rich, entitled jerk that will stomp all over someone and get away with it. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is that she would do anything for family, which is proven by what she’s doing for her grandmother. While Tyler, he’s worked extremely hard to get to where he is in his life and to prove to people that he’s more than just his horrible upbringing. I also liked how persuasive he could be, especially when it came to wanting to get Everly to help him because he needs her. Yet, what I liked most of all is how he handled everything when it came to coming face-to-face with his ex, even though it isn’t easy. Can I just say – score one for the good guys?

=“No way — you’re gonna have to work to get me in white.”
That was his girl, never one to take the easy route without offering a challenge of her own. “Oh, believe me, I’ll come up with the perfect scheme to make that happen.”=

Overall, Ms. Flynn has delivered another superb read for this series where the chemistry between this pair was intense and is certainly driven by the fact that they start off as enemies; the secondary characters definitely aren’t afraid to offer their much needed advice when it comes to Tyler and encouraging him to make things right with Everly after everything goes awry between them; and the ending had me loving how Tyler got the better of his ex and how he made things right with Everly. Although, I think she should have made him beg a bit more for being such a jerk. I would recommend The Schemer by Avery Flynn, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Katee Robert, Tessa Bailey, Kimberly Kincaid and Robin Covington.

Tyler Jacobson has a plan for everything—except how to handle his completely annoying, utterly frustrating, and totally sexy upstairs neighbor. He couldn’t care less if Everly Ribinski thinks he’s equally irritating—until he discovers she’s the only one who can help him land a business deal that will finally make him feel like he’s more than just a guy from the wrong side of the tracks.

Color him shocked when Everly refuses to help, insisting she should have run him over in the parking garage when she had the chance. Harsh. But possibly deserved. Tyler may have spent the last few months reveling in annoying the fiery gallery owner with a dark past, but he’s got secret leverage she can’t refuse.

If only one meeting didn’t turn into a fake date that turned into more. Way more. Like naked and hot as hell more.

The last thing either of them wants is to catch feelings for someone who is so obviously not their type. Good thing that will never happen. Right?
