In The Sweetheart List by Jill Shalvis, Harper Shaw goes to Lake Tahoe to fulfill her dream of opening a bakery. What better place to do so than the last place she remembers being truly happy?

What she finds when she gets there is an intriguing man named Bodie Campbell, who happens to be her landlord, and a runaway teenager named Ivy.

Soon she finds a happiness she hasn’t had in a very long time. But it soon becomes clear that Ivy is not just a simple runaway, and when her secret is revealed, it could send Harper’s budding romance with Bodie crashing to the ground.

Harper, Ivy, and Bodie’s each struggle to overcome their pasts, and their journeys are closely intertwined with one another. It’s not an easy, straightforward path for any of them, and it was great to watch them help maneuver each other through it.

I enjoyed how Bodie’s family is welcoming to the newcomers, and supportive of not just Bodie, but Harper and Ivy as well. They could have easily been skeptical of everything, but they embraced them all instead. It was touching to see how excited they were to welcome Ivy into their fold.

This is the fourth book in the Sunrise Cove series but, like the rest of the books in the series, can be read as a standalone. Readers new to the series can jump into the series here with no issues. I do recommend reading the other books in the series though, simply because they’ve all been good reads.

The Sweetheart List is a heartwarming story about hope, healing, love, and family. The characters are well-written and will have readers rooting for all of them to find the happiness and family they’ve been searching for.

When Harper Shaw’s life falls apart, she knows it’s time for a change. She removes everything that doesn’t spark joy—from her soul-sucking job to eating kale to making lists—and sets off for the last place she was happy, Lake Tahoe (who wouldn’t feel good there, right?) to fulfill her dream of opening her own bakery. With her Sugar Pine Bakery in between a tavern, owned by sexy, grumpy Bodie Campbell, and a bookstore, run by her new BFF, she feels a peace she’s never experienced since…well, forever.. Then she meets Ivy, a teenage runaway, who barrels into her heart. She sees a lot of herself in Ivy and takes her under her wing, but the teenager has secrets… When those secrets explode, it changes Harper’s new world, and she’ll learn, it’s never too late to start over, it’s never too late to figure out your life, and best of all, it’s never too late to let yourself believe in love.
