In The Ten Club (The King Trilogy #5) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, Their lives have been shattered and put back together more times than they can count, but Mia and King thought they were on the fast track to their HEA when tragedy strikes yet again. Then King ends up doing the one thing he swore to his wife he wouldn’t do and gives up his life for that of his brother Mack. Mia is left once again mourning the loss of her beloved husband until she receives word that he’s back from the dead. But he’s not the loving man she remembers. Instead he’s a cold, calculating businessman intent on harnessing all of the evil power the 10 Club has to offer him.

“Do you remember me at all, King?”
“I told you, Mia, that man you married, he is gone. He will never return. But what you and I can have will be so much better. No one will ever threaten you again. No one will touch you. You will have the world at your feet and the life of the queen you were meant to be.”

Mia, Mack, and his girlfriend Teddi, all prepare for the worst, coming up with a plan to stop evil King. But along the way something goes awry and they’re forced to make decisions that could change not only their lives, but the lives of untold numbers of people as well. And although Mia would love nothing better than to hope that King will eventually come to his senses and they can be a family with their son Archon again, she has to admit that there’s the distinct possibility she’ll never get that chance.

‘I had been through so much with King–the deepest love, the most crushing heartbreak–I didn’t know which way was up, but I knew I loved him. I always would.’

There is no easy way to explain The Ten Club aside from saying it was one dramatic plot twist after another and that it proved true love can stand the test of time, one way or another.

‘But there’s nothing a man won’t do for the woman he’s destined to love. Including being a little bit evil.’

Before diving into this, I highly recommend that you read at least one or two of the previous books in The King series or you will be lost. Okay…so you’ll still be out of sorts anyway with all of the twists and turns these stories take, but it’s in the best, most entertaining way possible. I really have to hand it to author Mimi Jean Pamfiloff for creating such a complex world and keeping her readers on their feet. *And* with her ability to take an evil guy like the newly resurrected King, who we should by all rights hate, and somehow make us believe that somewhere inside him there’s still a shred of goodness.

I think what I can’t get over–aside from the insanely complicated but intriguing storyline–was how much Mia was willing to go through to save those she loved. Everyone involved: King, Mia, Mack, and Teddi sacrificed something. But it felt like Mia was the one to step up time and again. She went through so many heartbreaking situations where there was no easy choice and yet other times where her anger with King over what he had done was simply palpable (and warranted!). I adored Mia’s strength, her tenacity, and her fiercely protective love. And I could completely sympathize with her when she was torn between her love for King and doing whatever would protect their child’s future.

It was pretty tough to like King in this particular installment most of the time. He was still sexy but he was also powerful, evil, egotistical, evil, twisted, and you guessed it, evil. I could see why Mia was so wrapped up in knots. King seemed to enjoy playing with her heart and mind this time around and definitely didn’t endear himself to anyone. He does go through a bit of an evolution over time but honestly when we get to the final pages and have the epilogue from his POV, the final revelation both shocked me and kind of made me smile at the same time. Let’s just say I think King wouldn’t seem right without a little bit of evil as part of his personality.

Be ready for your mind to be blown and for your faith in love and destiny to be restored. The Ten Club was the final dark act in Mia and King’s epic love story that spanned thousands of years. A story in which you don’t see how there could ever be a HEA, but where it does indeed work out in the end.

i read the first three books…but how did I miss books four and five??? I adore Mia….she has such inner strength and I love her character. King I can see how he can be a challenge for Mia especially after they have gone through. But as long as they get their HEA i will happily grab it up. Lovely review

You’ve got some catching up to do. LOL! 😉 Yeah, Mia was just as strong as ever, even though King puts her through the ringer this time. (Well…again, actually) There *is* a HEA with a true twist, Mimi-style of course. Have fun!

Isn’t that book synopsis and intriguing one? Mimi has quickly become one of my new favorite authors in the last year or so. I highly recommend checking her out, Burma! The King Trilogy is a bit more serious but her other work has more of a comedic edge to it. 🙂
