In Trust in Me (Wait For You #1.5) by J. Lynn, College student Cameron “Cam” Hamilton almost gets knocked off his feet when he meets Avery Morgansten for the first time. The pint-sized young woman with fiery red hair and gorgeous chocolate eyes captures his attention right away. Avery’s the only girl to turn him down for a date on campus. And she turns him down repeatedly to the point that it becomes an ongoing joke between them as they become close friends.
‘Avery was such a mystery to me; a paradox of innocence and allure–a mystery I was determined to solve.’
But Cam wants to take things to the next level with Avery. However, he gets a weird vibe that she’s hiding something from him and he wonders if someone may have hurt her in the past. He takes things slow with Avery, trying to gain her trust and help her build confidence. He hopes if he confesses about his own previous troubles, that she’ll reciprocate and clue him in on what’s now troubling her. All Cam knows is that he’s determined he can be the man Avery needs and that they can build a life together. Even if he has to woo her with homemade cookies, one batch at a time, to get her to agree.
‘Turning my cheek, I pressed a kiss to the inside of her palm. “Thank you for trusting in me.”
Trust in Me is the flip side to J Lynn’s incredible book Wait for You. This is Cam’s side of the story, and let me tell you, it doesn’t lose any of the intensity, humor or passion that we saw in book one. I know some readers aren’t that into reading two books about the same plot. But to me, it was definitely worth reading both Avery and Cam’s pov. I loved the storyline and felt that this gave us an insight into their feelings and why they dealt with things as they did.
‘The initial zap, the shock of our lips together hadn’t faded. Dumbly I realized that love made it that way, making sure that a simple kiss never dulled, never lost its luster.’
I fell in love with Cam all over again when I read Trust in Me. How could you not? He is a sweet, sexy, charming, fun guy and he was perfect for Avery. I loved that Cam had a secret nickname for her (Shortcake) and that he was always trying to do what was right for her in any given situation. He has some anger issues like any young man, but he has learned the right and wrong way to deal with his emotions, which certainly gets tested throughout the story. Plus…how sweet is it that he baked her cookies and lots of chocolatey treats? What girl wouldn’t swoon over a guy who did that?
“If you change your mind, I’ll be up for a while.”
“I’m not going to. Good night, Cam.”
Ouch. Damn. Shortcake just dismissed my ass. For some reason, that made me smile.
Cam and Avery have both been through very serious situations in the past and in some ways I think that may have helped them bond and to recognize certain emotional issues in each other. Those situations are definitely dark and not lighthearted, but J Lynn manages to keep the overall tone of the story fairly upbeat with some extremely smart and humorous dialogue.
J Lynn’s Wait for You series is New Adult storytelling done exactly right. Whether you’re already a fan of the genre, or if you want a good place to start, you can’t go wrong with Wait for You and Trust in Me.
