Undercover Duke by Sabrina Jeffries is the fourth book in the Duke Dynasty series. Reading the books in order is best for this series because each book builds upon the previous. The earlier books in the series were amazing, so I was extremely excited to read this book. The series is about the Duchess of Armitage’s five children, and they suspect that someone murdered her previous two husbands. They aren’t sure who or even why someone would have wanted to murder them, and they are trying to limit the possibilities from a list of people who attended a party.

Sheridan Wolfe, Duke of Armitage, reluctantly agreed to help the sibling’s investigation by questioning his half-brother’s aunt, Lady Eustance. The only idea the brothers can come up with for Sheridan to have a chance to question her is for Sheridan to pretend to court her daughter Vanessa. He is surprised to learn that Vanessa is interested in Juncker, a poet. He convinces Vanessa to let him help her in her pursuit of Juncker which will give him time to question Lady Eustance and help her see Juncker for the rogue he is. Except Sheridan comes to realize he is not as immune to Vanessa as he thought.

Vanessa has had a crush on Sheridan since the day she met him, but he treats her like a little sister. She decides to try and get Sheridan’s attention by admiring Juncker to make him jealous. She agrees to a fake courtship with Sheridan and when they are found in a compromising situation they are forced to marry.

I have enjoyed reading this series and slowly discovering clues that would help solve the mystery of who killed the two dukes. Normally I do not like cliffhangers, but the author’s writing kept the intrigue building up throughout the series, so I actually enjoyed it. There were several twists and turns in the stories and the ending was a surprise.

This was the last book in the series, and I must admit it was not my favorite. The characters were great, but the book leaned more towards mystery and less romance. I would have enjoyed seeing more interactions and more build-up between the main characters. The ending seemed abrupt but overall, it was a great end for the wonderful series.

Along with his stepsiblings, Sheridan Wolfe, Duke of Armitage, is determined to finally solve the mysteries behind the suspicious deaths of their mother’s three husbands. Tasked with investigating a possible suspect, Sheridan finds himself in dangerous proximity to her captivating daughter, Vanessa Pryde. But still haunted by a tragically lost love, the duke is resolved to resist the attraction—and avoid any “scheming” husband-hunters. Besides, lovely Miss Pryde seems utterly smitten with a roguish London playwright…

Vanessa thinks a little scheming may be in order—for it’s Sheridan she truly has her sights, and her heart, set on. Her theatrical flirtation is intended only to break through his business-like demeanor and guarded emotions. And as Sheridan’s jealousy becomes aroused, the two soon find themselves propelled into a scheme of an altogether different kind, involving a pretend engagement, a secret inquiry—and a perhaps not-so-secret leap into true love…
