In Vampires Never Cry Wolf (Dead in the City #3) by Sara Humphreys, When vampire Sadie Vampires-Never-Cry-WolfPemberton took over dance club The Coven in NYC, the area had been a safe place for quite some time. However, lately werewolves have been making their presence known. Specifically prince Killian Bane and his bodyguards. The self-assured werewolf loves to get Sadie riled up when he appears in her club, but it’s when they are face-to-face that things get complicated. Neither one can deny their attraction. But how can a vampire and a werewolf ever become true bloodmates with all the animosity between their races?

‘Until connecting with Killian, she hadn’t really thought much about living. Somehow, even without a heartbeat in her chest or breath in her lungs, he made her feel alive for the first time in centuries.’

As future king of the Werewolf Society, Killian knows it’s almost time to choose a mate before he takes over the reins from his father. But no she-wolf has ever challenged him like vampire Sadie does. Nor has he ever felt such a strong bond with a female before. When Killian finds out that she is the woman of his dreams–literally–he won’t stop until he proves to his family and her coven of vampires that their differences won’t matter where love is concerned. But not everyone is on board with Killian’s plan. So it will be up to him to himself and Sadie, with a little help from some friends, to get their point across.

A wicked look twinkled in her eye. “I’d say it’s time to nut up or shut up. All this talking is gonna make me think you’re all bark and no bite.”

“Wouldn’t want to let you down.” On a curse, he covered her eager mouth with his, and the world he knew ripped wide open.

The Dead in the City series just keeps heating up with every new installment we get from author Sara Humphreys. In Vampires Never Cry Wolf, the combination of a feisty centuries-old vampire and a smug & sexy werewolf prince was nothing but pure entertainment.

So far I’ve really enjoyed the world these characters live in, filled with vampires, werewolves, and various shifters, as they all hold on to a tenuous level of trust and peace between them. Sadie and Killian’s story threatened to break that treaty with members of two different groups forming a bloodmate bond. Ms. Humphreys was able to convey how the politics between vampires and werewolves affected both Killian and Sadie’s daily lives while showing their longing to have freedom to do as they wished. I loved how all of the characters from previous novels were involved here and were ultimately supportive. (For the most part.)

Killian and Sadie had a lot of sexy, flirty bantering going on. He loved to antagonize her and get a reaction, while she didn’t want to give up an ounce of control to the alpha male. What fun that was to read! But I think what I enjoyed most was watching the way the bond grew between Sadie and Killian. They both were a bit freaked out at first, but then were almost in awe of the connection they felt, which was evident in the intensity of their love scenes. *dreamy sigh* I also loved the playful moments they had, especially when they were in the subway tunnels showing off, being carefree.

Vampires Never Cry Wolf can be read as a standalone or as part of the series. Either way, I hope you’ll find this every bit as enjoyable as I did.

Vampires are nothing but trouble…

As far as beautiful vampire Sadie Pemberton is concerned, werewolves shouldn’t be sticking their noses into New York’s supernatural politics. They don’t know jack about running a city-not even that hot-as-sin new vampire-werewolf liaison who’s just arrived in town.

Werewolves are too sexy for their own good…

The last thing Killian Bane wanted was to end up in New York City playing nice with vampires. Unfortunately, he’s on a mission, and when he encounters the sexiest, most stubborn female vamp he’s ever met, he’s going to have to turn on a little of that wolfish charm…and Sadie’s going to learn a thing or two about what it means to have a wild side…

Thanks for the review, Michele. I haven’t read this series, but whenever a new book comes out it always sounds so clever and interesting. One of these days I will read one. 😉
