In Vengeful Love (Vengeful Love #1) by Laura Carter, Scarlett Heath has always maintained a level of professionalism when it comes to her work as a lawyer. But when sexy bazillionaire CEO Gregory Ryans comes to her determined to hire her services, in hopes she’ll help him with a hostile takeover of a company, she finds herself agreeing. Even though, she knows she’s probably making the biggest mistake of her life; a mistake that could cost her the life of someone she loves.
Although I did like this book, there were moments where I wanted to throw my kindle away in frustration. For such a smart heroine, Scarlett didn’t act like it sometimes when she was around Gregory. Yet, in saying that, the plot was fast-paced and kept me interested with its edge-of-your-seat suspense and the hero’s need for revenge. Why did Gregory want revenge? What was it about Scarlett that made the hero determined to secure her help?
“Tell me, Mr. Gregory Ryans, how does one come to have all of this by the age of thirty?”
“Greed, pride, arrogance.”
“For the record, I don’t consider ambition to be any of those, although you can certainly be arrogant.”
He laughs, a short, tense sound. “Really, I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and control my own future. I get a kick out of deals, seeing the worth of a company grow, discovering an innovative product and getting it into a market. There aren’t many jobs where you get to do all of that and do it mostly the way you want to.”
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to everything that happens to Scarlett. The secrets Gregory is hiding turn the heroine’s life upside down, and I felt sorry for her when she lost someone that she loved. It was an unfortunate moment that she didn’t deserve, yet it definitely took this story in an interesting direction. How can Scarlett continue to trust Gregory when he’s the cause of her pain? How will she deal with the fallout of the hostile takeover? Can Gregory convince her to give him a second chance? However, there are some light-hearted moments between Gregory and Scarlett that made me smile. He’s charming and it was no wonder he won her over so easily.
Scarlett is a resilient heroine, and deals with everything that happens the best way she can. She’s also independent, brave and tenacious. Her desire to help Gregory comes from the fact that she believes he needs her help desperately, causing her to go against everything she believes in. In my eyes, it made her a tad naïve. As if there weren’t going to be consequences to her doing something she thought was unethical.
Overall, I liked this story where several sex scenes heated up the pages, and did justice to this couple’s intense chemistry. Yet, I felt there were too many of them to enjoy this story as a whole. The ending wrapped the story up nicely with Gregory and Scarlett protecting each other. However, it was also frustrating because it ended with a cliffhanger. I would recommend Vengeful Love, if you like stories that end with a cliffhanger, or romantic suspense novels.

He’s a devastatingly handsome, filthy-rich CEO. She’s a high-flying London lawyer. All it takes is one boardroom pitch. One hostile takeover.
Vengeful Love is darkly suspenseful, sinfully sexy white-collar romance at its very best.
I’ve always walked the straight and narrow—following the rules, never straying from my chosen path.
Until Mr. Sexy Bazillionaire CEO Gregory Ryans walked into my life. It was only supposed to be business, but one brush of his wicked lips against my skin changed everything.

They say love can bring a person to their knees.
