What You Do to Me by Barbara Longley is well-written, funny, and What-You-Do-to-Meendearing.

It all begins with a call into a radio station. A female caller calls in and tells them about a one-night stand with her handyman, Sam. Sam is listening and calls in to tell his side of things.

“I’ve never engaged in any extracurricular activities until the work is finished.”

Sam doesn’t believe there is anything wrong with his behavior and comes off as conceited and a man ho. Sam’s reasons for his behavior are because his parents died, so he closes himself off to other people.

Haley’s only had one lover, but that makes sense because they were high school sweethearts. They dated in high school, throughout college and then got engaged. Only no wedding. The fiancée left her and now her mother has thought up a scheme to get her daughter’s mojo back. Haley believes her mother and father are giving her an early birthday present, one that includes a handyman who can fix her house. Hilarious moments ensue as Haley’s mom meddles in her life and pimps her out to the newest handyman superstar.

When Sam arrives at Haley’s, he has more things on this mind than just fixing her house. Haley, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with what’s he’s offering.

“You can’t be any good at what you do if you have to offer sex on the side to get jobs.”

After meeting Haley, Sam starts to change his behavior and tries to prove himself to her. He knows he’s good at his job and wants a second chance at showing Haley, the real Sam. There’s an obvious connection between Haley and Sam, but when his feelings for her go deeper than what he’s used to, will he panic and lose what they have together?

What You Do to Me is a good read with many funny moments and a solid, slow-burn romance!
