Wild Licks by Cecilia Tan: Aspiring actress and known socialite Gwen Hamilton holds a secret from all but her family and close friends, she’s into kink, even running a secret BDSM dungeon alongside her sister where she can have an outlet for her masochistic desires. Mal Kenneally, rock star and best friend to Gwen’s sister’s boyfriend, is a sadist, but due to past relationships he refuses to be with a woman twice.
But when Gwen finds her way into Mal’s after-concert room in disguise from her method acting, she finds the perfect partner for her to act out her desires with, and Mal finds a woman willing to take what he can give, and he needs to have another night with her.
Although, Mal doesn’t know it’s Gwen at first, in future encounters truth comes out. Mal knows he needs stay away, but Gwen only digs deeper and deeper under his skin and into his heart.
“You don’t know what you’re asking.”
“Sex? I know what sex is, Mal.” Her eyes had an enticing depth, a playfulness and sensuality that I wanted to plumb.
Sadism and Masochism isn’t for me in a book, but even so I did like the story. Warning, though, for your average reader, the sex scenes, of which there are many, definitely get intense.
The story is definitely about Mal’s acceptance of himself and his desires. Gwen is pretty figured out, she just wants Mal’s love because no other man has gotten her, or her desires, so well. I do wish I saw more of their connection outside the bedroom, which was only told to me by the characters, because too much of the story was focused on the sex scenes.
But I do think this was a good erotica story, trust and emotion is developed through their intensely sexual relationship. I liked both characters, especially how Gwen would push Mal. She never bowed to him, always stood up for herself and him. Mal was the quintessential angsty artist which I don’t love, but I did love his journey through the story.
I would recommend Wild Licks for those who want a good S&M or erotica story. The second in a series, it can be read as a standalone, but they’re all likable characters. I’m sure you’ll want to read the others in this series, it’s a good group.
