Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Jennifer Probst to HJ!
Hi Jennifer and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, All Roads Lead to You!
To start off, can you please tell us a little bit about this book?:
Sure! My heroine, Harper, has one passion – her rescue farm and healing her thoroughbred, Phoenix. She dreams of leading him to the Triple Crown but desperately needs help. Enter sexy Irish horse trainer Aidan, who comes to stay at her family’s bed and breakfast for a brief vacation. He’s fled Ireland after a bitter betrayal but when he sees the horse with a fighting spirit, he wants to help train him to win. He’s also facing an unexpected new challenge: his feelings for Harper, but how can she open her heart to a man who will only be around long enough to break it? They agree to keep it professional but along the way they learn a few lessons in love, trust and taking chances. And as painful as it promises to be: saying goodbye.
Please share your favorite lines or quote(s) from this book:
I have many but this is one I love:
She fell into his kiss like Alice fell into Wonderland.
What inspired this book?
My passion for animal rescue and horse racing. This is truly a book from the heart and one I’ve always wanted to write. Watching a secondary cast of animal characters develop throughout the story and mirroring harper and Aidan’s struggle to love and healing was a beautiful thing for me to experience. I work with dog rescues such as Pets Alive and Barking Back Rescue, and adore Goats of Anarchy for their work with goats. Also, who doesn’t want to write about a hot Irishman lol?!
How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters? Did they ever surprise you?
My passion for animal rescue and horse racing. This is truly a book from the heart and one I’ve always wanted to write. Watching a secondary cast of animal characters develop throughout the story and mirroring harper and Aidan’s struggle to love and healing was a beautiful thing for me to experience. I work with dog rescues such as Pets Alive and Barking Back Rescue, and adore Goats of Anarchy for their work with goats. Also, who doesn’t want to write about a hot Irishman lol?!
What was your favorite scene to write?
I have too many to list but I love this sexy encounter here, where Aidan finally challenges Harper after some long, delicious sexual tension!
“You been thinking about us together, Harper?”
She licked her lips, then cursed herself when his gaze dropped to her mouth. Temper frayed at her nerves, reminding her the only way to face him was no holds barred boldness. “Yes. Have you?”
“Yes.” The word struck like a bullet. She controlled her reaction to jerk back and met his stare directly. “Since we’re putting all our truth out there, I should let you know I’ve been fantasizing about kissing you. And not just on your mouth.”
What was the most difficult scene to write?
Probably when Harper spills her secrets to Aidan. It’s extremely emotional and I had to hit all the points without being melodramatic. Here’s a taste:
The close call woke sleeping demons inside. All the reasons she
never wanted children whispered in her ear, and she squeezed her eyes
shut, shivering slightly.“What’s wrong?” he asked.
The past and present shimmered together, merging in a blurred
memory that demanded her attention. She hadn’t thought about it in
so long. Buried the truth under so much rubble, she’d thought it was
dead forever. But it wasn’t. Her talk with Ophelia had stirred the monsters up.
And they had never been far from the surface. Here in the dark, in his
arms, feeling safer than she ever had before, she realized she wanted to
tell one person what had happened.Just one.
“I was bullied when I was young.”
His arms tightened around her. She waited for his questions, but he
settled into a silence that told her he’d spend the whole night listening.
She felt like a ravaged animal, not sure if she was ready to take the leap
into trust, but his hand gently closed around hers, as if trying to give
her his strength.
Would you say this book showcases your writing style or is it a departure for you?
This book showcases my unique writing voice which is contained in all my books, but it’s definitely different because I went deep into issues I’m passionate about and created a quieter, more serious heroine than I ever have before. I think All Roads Lead to You has a lot of emotion packed into the story and unfolds slowly, like a delicious four course meal. I’m so proud of this book and really hope readers love it.
What do you want people to take away from reading this book?
That all people have ghosts and a past that makes them who they are. That they can fight and heal and love again, even if they don’t think it’s possible. That lesson is taught to us time and again by animals who take the leap after being abused and loving again.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?
I’m working on my first women’s fiction book called The Italian Affair about three generations of women who travel to Italy and experience love, healing, and a variety of adventures that change the course of their lives. It comes out January 2021. I also completed my first book in a brand new series The Sunshine Sisters – it’s called Love on Beach Avenue about three sisters who own a wedding planning business in Cape May. It releases April 2020.
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Excerpt from All Roads Lead to You:
“I think you should go,” she finally said.
Nothing.
When she risked another glance, he was staring at her with a predatory hunger that smashed the breath out of her lungs. “You want me to leave?” he finally asked, his voice like rough gravel and sand.
A shiver shook through her. “I don’t know what I want,” she said truthfully. “Do you?”
“I want you.”
A gasp escaped her lips. The stark words fell between them like hard stones dropping into water. Confusion swamped her. “For a night?”
“No. That kiss proved to me I couldn’t give you up after one night.”
She began to pace furiously. His words swarmed her ears with sweet promise and crippling panic. Men weren’t this direct. Men liked to seduce and play pretty games, didn’t they? Why was he choosing to push her tonight after all this time of fighting their attraction?
“Is this because Phoenix finally won?” she challenged. “You want to complete your victory by having me fall into bed with you? Control both the horse and owner?” The stinging words peppered out of her mouth before she could swallow them back. “If he’d lost again, we’d never be having this conversation.”
He placed his glass carefully down on the table. Put his hands on his hips. And regarded her with a savage intensity that made everything stop. “Yes, we would. We’ve been building up to tonight since the moment we met. I’m just deciding to call you out on it now.” His voice came out rough. “Do you want me?”
She blinked. “I—I—”
“Simple question. I need a yes-or-no answer.”
“Yes.” Her cheeks burned and fear bubbled in her veins, but she wasn’t going to lie. Not about this.
His face softened. “Good. Time for a few truths. I’ve been hard since I laid eyes on you. Been dreaming about you every night. So I’ll tell you what I want, and you can decide if you want me to stay.”
Eyes wide, she stared at him, helpless under the primitive male energy swirling around him. She’d never craved a man this badly before. Her whole body turned to high alert, waiting for the signal to cross the room and step into his arms.
“I want to take off your clothes, lay you out on that bed, and make you scream with pleasure. I want to claim you tonight and every night after this, until there are no barriers between us. I want to be your man, Harper, for however long this journey lasts.” His eyes dimmed with a flare of frustration. “I can’t offer you marriage or promise I’ll stay. After the road to the Derby, I plan on returning to Ireland. You need to know that in order to make your decision. And if you say no, I swear to God, nothing will change between us. You mean too much to me at this point to screw around with our relationship or what we have with Phoenix. I can handle the rejection like an adult.” He let out a breath. “That’s all of it. I can go back to my room, right now, if you want.”Use this for a shorter excerpt for social media ads or teaser:

I use to rescue Siberian Huskies when I was younger. I completely understand Harper’s passion. Huskies are beautiful but they are escape artists and diggers. People get them for their looks but don’t bother trying to understand their personality traits. So many are returned to shelters. I had to stop rescuing because of health issues. My other passion is Donate For Life!
I was fortunate to receive a kidney donation from my husband but there are so many sick people waiting on donors list. Supporting organ donation has become my passion!

Books are a passion as is traveling. I would travel all the time if I could, but age, health, and money are issues, not necessarily in that order, are getting in the way. Helping people and creatures has always been something we have done. We are volunteers for several community and national/international organizations. We were foster parents for puppy litters that were too young to adopt out for many years and kept dogs from two litters. We have had many pets over the years and all have been rescues. When it is time, we will be looking for another rescue to bring home. A lab and/or a beagle which are what our two favorite dogs were. We will probably volunteer more at the animal shelter also.
