Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Alyssa and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Bane’s Choice!

Hello, fellow Harlequin Junkies!

Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:

When a dangerous vampire must protect his territory against warlock attack, he meets a beautiful doctor who is immune to his compulsion. Can she smash through the walls around his heart?
Will her be forced to kill her … or claim her for his own?
Danger, passion, and magic collide: What will ultimately be BANE’S CHOICE?

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Bane raced through the night at the head of a band of thirty riders, the fury of a fierce territoriality burning through him.
Bent over his Harley, he hit a speed that would have been impossible for human reflexes and was almost too fast for most of the vampires on bikes behind him. He’d already heard the catastrophic sound of one of his club members smashing into the guardrail on that last hairpin turn. Maybe he or she would survive, not that Bane gave a fuck.
Club members were expendable.
Vampires were expendable.
Everybody was expendable.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • I spent a wonderful long weekend in Savannah researching the setting and am almost 100% sure I saw a ghost in Bonaventure Cemetery.
  • I have actually ridden a motorcycle all by myself – without crashing!
  • There’s an awesome dog named Bram Stoker in it!
  • Makeover scene!! LOVE me a makeover scene!
  • This is quite possibly the most romantic book I’ve ever written, in more than 45 books. I had so much fun watching Bane’s cold heart slooooowly warm…

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Bane is a 300-year-old vampire who is fascinated by the beautiful, curvy woman who is the first person brave enough to stand up to him in centuries.
Ryan spends her life being reliable and dependable and … ordinary. When she meets the dangerous man who claims to be a vampire and invites her into a magical world, she can’t resist the chance to be extraordinary for once in her life.

Using just 5 words, how would you describe Hero and Heroine’s love affair?

Passionate, dangerous, unexpected, thrilling, fated.

The First Kiss…

“Maybe, before we get naked, we should stop talking and start kissing,” she whispered. “Because if you’re a lousy kisser, the deal is off. I can’t put up with another lousy kisser, after—”
Having no desire at all to hear about whoever the soon-to-be-dead man was who’d been a lousy kisser, Bane simply decided to shut her up.
With his mouth.
He’d show her that…
Show her the…
Show her how…
Hell. He didn’t know what he was trying to show her.
It was hard to show anybody anything when his entire world was exploding.

Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?

When Ryan gives Bane – who has been trapped in the dark for 300 years – the sunlight, by means of modern technology:

“Hold out your hand,” she demanded, and then she put a cylindrical object on his palm.
Then Bane heard whispering, giggling, and rustling noises, before Ryan finally spoke again.
“Okay. Open your eyes.”
When Bane, feeling unsure and stupidly vulnerable, opened his eyes, he took one look and shouted an unintelligible sound, and then he looked around again. “What the hell?”
Somehow, through some magic he already knew must be science, he stood, in bright noon sunlight, directly in front of Buckingham Palace.
He was back in London.
He was back in London.
He whirled around, and the images stayed with him. He was inside a movie, in the daylight, in London.
And he had Ryan to thank.
He held out the hand not holding the remote, because of course that’s what he held. This must be a virtual reality device; he kept up with technology, so he’d known about them.
But he hadn’t known about them.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would be absolutely crucial to include?

When Dr. Ryan St. Cloud discovers that she has a secret of her own:

No!” He desperately fought his way free, gathering up his magic to strike out—if he could at least knock Sylvie out, if not kill her, her power over the dead would be interrupted.
But he was too late.
The warlock sliced the air with one hand, and a burst of powerful black magic sizzled through the air, aimed directly at Ryan.
And, helpless to get there in time, Bane had to watch as every ounce of that foul power smashed into the woman he just now realized he loved.
“No,” he howled, destroying the final corpse that lurched in front of him, blocking his view.
But then a cascading fountain of silvery white light cascaded up from the area where Ryan had just been struck down, and Bane had to shield his eyes against it, even as he raced toward her. The light shimmered and then coalesced around Ryan, who wasn’t dead.
She wasn’t even down.
She was standing in the middle of a swirling tube of pure light, holding her arms out, a look of total astonishment on her face.

Readers should read this book …

because it’s the first in a thrilling new series. Because all of us have wished, just for a moment, to be lifted out of our ordinary lives into the extraordinary.
Because it’s a Halloween present you can give to yourself!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m writing book 2 of the Vampire Motorcycle Club series, Hunter’s Hope, now, and it’s so much fun! When Hunter tries to learn how to live with the darkness of his new identity as a vampire, meeting a marvelously bubbly woman who lives in shades of sunlight–and can see ghosts–is far more than he bargained for!

Excerpt from Bane’s Choice:

Bane was nodding at Hunter when the woman he hadn’t even known he’d been waiting three hundred years for ran into the room and started shouting at him.
“Who the hell are you, and where is my staff? My God, you’re not even sterile, and 90 percent of his body is open to compromise!” She ran across the room, put herself between Hunter and Bane, and shoved Bane away from the bed, putting her entire body weight into it.
Bane blinked and actually fell back a step, not from her ineffectual shove, but from the fact that she’d actually done it.
Grown men feared him.
Vampires feared him.
Things that were far worse than even vampires Feared. Him.
And this small human¬¬—with a face that was all furious, ocean-blue eyes and pale, creamy, glowing skin—was still pushing him.
And shouting in his face.
Every predatory instinct in his body woke up, shocking his nerve endings into an almost-electric state of heightened awareness, and his mind started shouting a warning at him—threat, threat, threat.
He looked into her eyes, and those same instincts seared a demand into his brain—mine, mine, mine.
Who the fuck knew courage would be his aphrodisiac? And wait…glowing skin? Literally glowing? It had to be something that only a vampire’s heightened vision could pick up. Bane couldn’t imagine the people she worked with not noticing if their colleague lit up like a lantern.
She shoved him again, disrupting that train of thought, and he narrowed his eyes. The only threat this human could pose was to his equilibrium, regardless of his bizarre reaction to her.
“Get out of here before I have to hurt you,” she shouted at him. “Security!”
He couldn’t help it.
He smiled.
She froze, her hands still on his chest, poised to push again. “Are you out of your damn mind? Get out of my patient’s room! You’re a danger to him. Security!”
“Security is not coming,” he told her, just for the pleasure of watching her react. Every emotion she felt showed on her face, and he suddenly wanted nothing more than to watch her experience them. For hours.
Days.
He flinched at the reaction, his shoulders tightening and his breath slowing. There was no logic in it. The sudden wanting came from a place far deeper than logic, far more primal than reason. A red haze of instinct started screaming at him to take her.
Keep her.

None feel really real, but I think that’s a good thing. I doubt I’d sleep at night otherwise.

I think for me it would be Alucard and Dracula from Castlevania series . I grew up playing the game so I was happy to watch the Netflix series. You really see the rang of emotions and morals from both that you can relate in a way. Specially Alucard in the 2 season I just wanted to hug him. I also think D from the Japanese novels Vampire Hunter D .

OMG! I have been waiting on this book! I have always felt that the vampires from Christine Feehan’s Carpathians might be real, especially Mikhail – the prince, and if Bane is as sexy as he sounds in the blurb and excerpt…I certainly hope he is real!

  4. Glenda M

If they’re written well, they are all real while I’m reading them. 😉
