Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Mimi Jean and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Colel, The Mistress of Bees!

Thank you for having me back for my 38th book!! Hello, readers. Who’s ready for a little sweetness, a lot of giggles, and a huge helping of immortals?

To start off, can you please tell us a little bit about this book?:

COLEL is book #5 of my long running Immortal Matchmakers, Inc. Series. It’s a STANDALONE, it’s snarky, and a little crazy. These stories are best read by people who like a little unexpected chaos with their paranormal romance!

Please share your favorite lines or quote(s) from this book:

Oh, gosh!! LOL…. Ready? Because it’s kind of naughty!

“Sorry, I meant soul mate. I’ve never met anyone who’s drawn me in like you. And by that, I am specifically referring to the fact that I still want to look at you, get to know you, and possibly lick your manhood—including the sack—despite the fact you’ve acted like a total beast.” Colel listened as Rys apparently choked on something. “Hello? Rys? Are you all right?”

What inspired this book?

Oh, boy! Inspiration for this book goes way, waaaaay back when I did the original research on Mayan gods for my Accidentally Yours series. I remember going through lists and list of deities (there were a lot), and laughing when I came across her. You just don’t see many bee gods popping up in the history books. Death, war, sun, rain are common. But bees?

How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters? Did they ever surprise you?

I feel like I’ve known Colel for years because she’s been in so many books, so what really surprised me about her is what an optimist she is. I’d always thought of her as a little dower. But no! She’s probably one of the wackiest.

What was your favorite scene to write?

I would have to choose the scene where Colel calls the other gods for advice. I kind of miss some of those characters, so it was nice to hang with them again! LOL. Ah, memories…

Next on her list was Ashli, the Goddess of Love, who was married to Máax, the God of Time Travel. Ashli answered right away and listened with the utmost attention and love to every word.
“So what do you think?” Colel asked after explaining her predicament.
“Honestly?” Ashli asked.
“Of course.”
“To know if this male is your mate, I’d have to get you two in a room together. Even then, I wouldn’t really know. The magic just kind of happens on its own. Or not.”
“So…basically your superpower is letting nature take its course?” Not so super.
“I can’t force people together, but when love is destined, I can help speed it along.”
“Ah, I see.” Well, too bad because I’m trying to avoid getting in the same room with him. “Are you certain there is no other way to determine if he is my mate?”
“I’m sorry, sister, the only deity I know of with the gift of foresight is Cimil, and she’s in a time-out. A long, looong time-out. Even so, no one can ever rely on her information.”
True. Once, Cimil told them all that zombies would sweep across the globe and everyone should prepare. A week later, she was found on her sofa binge-watching the first season of The Walking Dead. That was her prognostication: that a TV show would get good ratings.
Idiot. “Well, Cimil isn’t here, so it’s a moot point,” Colel muttered with regret.
“Indeed. But I kind of miss her. Life is boring when you know absolutely nothing will go wrong. Where’s the suspense, the drama?”
“Agreed.” If anything, Cimil kept everyone on their toes. “But my predicament remains.”
“Have you tried speaking with K’ak?”
Their brother who’d yet to find his flagship power? Other than having a name that sounds like “cock,” but really means “smoking squirrel”?
“No. I don’t think he’d be of service,” replied Colel.

What was the most difficult scene to write?

The ending! I wanted it to feel a certain way and give us the warm fuzzies, but at the same time, I had to set up book #6. I think it came out well, with a few fun surprises. Hopefully, readers will agree!

Rys shrugged. “You asked me to look after them, so I did. We also had a little talk.” He narrowed his eyes in the bees’ general direction. “They’ve seen the error of their ways and have promised to beehave or else.” He cleared his throat. “And I may have given them a treat or two to win them over.”
The hive swirled into a playful circle.
Rys smiled proudly at them. “That’s right. Who loves you?”
“He might be on their good side, but that doesn’t make him Colel’s mate,” Brutus argued.
Rys’s smile dropped, and he snarled in Brutus’s general direction. “Get anywhere near my woman, I will kill you.”
“Make a middle finger,” Brutus commanded. The bees formed a giant hand with one finger sticking up.
“Make a knife,” Rys snarled and stepped toward Brutus.
Kinich stood. “No one is killing anyone. I’m sure there’s a perfectly good explanation for all of this. Not that I have one,” he muttered and rubbed the back of his neck. “If only Cimil were here.”

Would you say this book showcases your writing style or is it a departure for you?

This is typical Mimi Jean snark all the way.

What do you want people to take away from reading this book?

Ummm… Well, I suppose I want them to take away a smile. That’s really what my paranormal comedies are all about. But, as usual, there’s a deeper meaning in the story. This one is about the power of trusting your gut!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

Oh! So many!! I am working on The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant, #3. So much fun! (Coming in June.) After that, I’ll be working The Boyfriend Collector, #2 (finale) for August. So steamy! After that, I have to decide if it’s time for another OHellNo (My Pen is Huge) or a new series I’ve been wanting to start. Decisions decisions!

Excerpt from Colel:

Colel pushed the door open the rest of the way so Rys could see every inch: smooth goddess skin, long legs, forever perky breasts. “May I help you, sir?”
He swallowed hard. “Uh, uh…”
“Yes?” She folded her arms over her chest, being sure to push her tits up just a bit more.
He blinked. “I, uh…came to…”
She raised two brows. “I’m waiting. Or are you just going to stand there all day staring at my nipples?”
He bobbed his head, staring at her nipples. “Is there even a choice?”
She shrugged. “Probably not. They are quite spectacular.”
“Yes. They are.” His gaze slowly pulled away, crawling up her neck to meet her eyes.
Then something wonderful happened. A connection.
Peering into his espresso-colored eyes felt like dipping her body into that hot bath awaiting her in the other room. It felt like warm sweet honey coating the troubles in her mind, producing a potent desire, demanding she immediately cease all resistance and give in to whatever he wanted.
Hopefully he wants me to hop in that bed. Because in this moment, all she wanted was him—touching her, kissing her, inside her.
“So?” She batted her eyelashes.
“I’m…I need…I came to ask you,” he swallowed hard, “to leave.” His words came out as a half-baked demand, while hard lust flickered in his eyes.
“Is that what you really want? Or is something telling you to make sure I never leave your side, which scares the hell out of you because we’ve only just met, so how is it possible that you could want someone this much?”
His eyes flickered with need, but his mouth and posture were rigid, like a man preparing to fend off an intruder.
