In The Prince’s Cinderella Doc by Louisa Heaton, being hired to handle Crown Prince Matteo’s yearly physical is a big honor for Dr. Krystiana Szenac and a little unnerving. Still, she’ll do her job and then be on her way. However, when an unfortunate accident leads to her becoming homeless, Matteo offers Krystiana the chance to stay at the palace. It may not be a good idea, but she needs a chance to decide what she’s going to do about finding another place to live. Yet, the more time she spends with Matteo, the more she finds herself falling for a man there’s no way she could have a future with. Will Matteo break Krystiana’s heart or will he find a way to have Krystiana in his life forever?

“I couldn’t possibly let you do that! It will cost a fortune!”
“Are you insured?”
“Yes.”
“Then don’t worry about it. Let me do something good for you. You were kind enough to step in at the last minute and help me out when I needed a doctor – let me step in and you out when you need a…”
“A builder?” She laughed.
He smiled back. “A knight in shining armour. Didn’t you see my suit of armour downstairs? It’s very polished.”

Although this story was a little slow to get started because of its world-building into why the heroine is meeting with the hero, I really enjoyed it in the end because it’s a story of hope, a chance for rules to be broken, and for a hero to find happiness with the right person instead of following his country’s decrees. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face and then the heroine finds herself in desperate need of help after an unfortunate accident where this story really takes off. Will the heroine accept the hero’s help? Will the heroine put her trust in the hero?

As for the dialogue, it was entertaining due to the main characters back stories as they’ve both been through a lot in managing to survive terrible ordeals. However, the dialogue wasn’t all intense. There were some heart-warming moments between the hero and heroine, the hero and his daughter and the growing friendship between the hero’s ex-wife and the heroine who believes Krystiana shouldn’t give up on Matteo, even though it seems a forever relationship between them could never happen.

”Do you have any flashbacks? Any issues from your captivity?”
“Not really. Apart from needing a night-light.”
“That’s understandable.” He looked out at the broad expanse of rich orange-pink sky, cloudless and still.
“So, Your Highness, as you can see we are both injured birds.”
“I guess we are. But we’re resilient and we’ll both fly again.”

With the heroine, she’s smart, kind, caring, resilient, courageous, a good doctor and I liked how she put her trust in the hero, even knowing she could end up with a broken heart. I also liked the close relationship the heroine shared with her aunt and the growing friendship the heroine shared with the hero’s ex-wife. She needs their advice desperately and the encouragement they give her to not to give up Matteo, even when it feels all hope is lost that they’ll ever be able to have a forever relationship. While the hero, he’s strong, brave, driven, a good father and I liked the decisions he made to fight for his relationship with the heroine. Really, she helps him so much to see the good in people and not be so closed off due to what happened to him in the past.

Overall, Ms. Heaton has delivered a good read in this book where the chemistry between this couple I felt wasn’t all that strong when they meet, but gets stronger the more time they spend together, especially once they talk about their pasts; the romance was wonderful and well worth the wait; and the ending left me a little bit emotionally wrecked since I thought the hero and heroine didn’t stand a chance of getting their happy ever after. Yet, I’m glad that in the end everything worked out for this pair as the hero uses his power as a royal to prove to the heroine that she means everything to him. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely because of how much happiness Krystiana has brought to Matteo’s life and vice versa. I would recommend The Prince’s Cinderella Doc by Louisa Heaton, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope, Cinderella romances or books by authors Sue Mackay, Annie O’Neil, Tina Beckett and Carol Marinelli.
