Today it is my pleasure to Welcome author Lucy Jane Wood to HJ!

Hi Lucy Jane welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Disenchanted!
Please summarize the book for the readers here:
Disenchanted is my latest cosy, comforting, 90s-inspired witchy story, set in the same world as Rewitched and Uncharmed. Each book is interconnected by the same coven, but they can be read in any order.
This time we meet Sage Hemlock, a witch who turned her back on magic when she was very young after her powers betrayed her in the very worst way. In an attempt to control her wild witchery over the years, Sage has thrown herself into a lifetime of academia and magical study, while working at the local small town museum with her best friend and constant annoyance, Casimir. But one day, an unexplained delivery to the museum brings a mysterious artefact to Sage’s doorstep and her curiosity gets the better of her. A curse is triggered, and magic is soon running amok. There’s a beanstalk in her back garden, her sister is travelling by pumpkin coach, Casimir is starting to look suspiciously like a handsome prince… Fairytales have come to life, and Sage must face the magic that she’s always run from to try and understand the mysteries of the curse and save everyone she loves from a fairytale forever.
Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:
“With closed eyes and wintery breath blooming before her, Sage shoved back her curls and wished. She wished on every star that she had ever borne witness to across her whole lifetime. All of the ones that she had wasted by keeping her head down, staring at the floor or explained away with sombre facts about burning out and impossible, far-off distances…”
Please share a few Fun facts about this book…
- I first pitched the story to my editor as ‘witchy Shrek’…!
- The working title was originally Misspelled, but my publisher decided that Disenchanted packed a little more punch.
- A song that I listened to on repeat while writing this one was I Could Write A Book by Harry Connick Jr. It sums up the friends-to-maybe-lovers vibe between Sage and Casimir perfectly, and the big band music helps me feel like I’m watching a cosy 90s rom-com in my head while I write.
What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?
I always describe my books as having a ‘sprinkle of romance’, and this one is no different. Sage and Casimir have been best friends since their university days, where they started out as academic rivals before quickly realising that they had no choice but to switch to inseparable companions instead.
Casimir is endlessly fascinated by Sage, her mind and her magic from the very first moment they meet—probably because she’s the only one who isn’t victim to his irresistible charm. Sage is quietly grateful for the support that he has always provides her with, the patience that he shows towards her very difficult ways, and how he’s the only person who can make her laugh when she’s determined to remain decidedly cross at all times.
Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?
I loved writing all of the fun fairytale chaos in this book, and I tried to make each moment as nostalgic and whimsical as possible! Casimir was pretty much my ideal character to write dialogue for because he’s my favourite type of romantic interest – a totally endearing idiot. Combining those traits with a classic handsome prince trope made for some really fun moments to put together. I love the chapter when his ridiculous princely costume appears for the first time:
“Thank god I’m not ugly, Casimir said, extremely sincere. “I think I’m just about making it work.” He glanced down, giving a half spin as he admired the front and then the back.”
Readers should read this book….
…if they believe that fairytales are forever, and that magic, joy and whimsy should all remain a priority as you get older.
…if they carry serious nostalgia for Hocus Pocus, Beauty and the Beast with a sprinkle of Shrek, plus the witchy vibes of Charmed and Sabrina The Teenage Witch.
…if they are looking for a pumpkin-filled, cinnamon spiced, spooky season book to curl up with.
What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?
I’m not entirely sure how much I’m allowed to say just yet… But I could honestly write in this cosy, witchy world forever, it’s all of my favourite nostalgic, pumpkin-spiced things combined. I’m currently dabbling with new cosy characters, new autumnal settings and new witchy magic – but also having my first baby very soon, so writing will be a bit of a juggling act this time!
Thanks for blogging at HJ!

Book Info:
A reluctant witch must confront the magic she’s always denied after accidentally triggering a curse in this delightfully cozy fantasy from the author of Rewitched and Uncharmed.
Sage Hemlock has no interest in embracing her witchy side. Magic has betrayed her before, bringing nothing but heartache, and she will not let something so foolish happen again.
Instead, Sage has thrown herself into her work and studies, running the local museum and largely preferring the company of her library and her cat to other humans. Her one goal is to fly under the coven’s radar so that she can finally shed her blasted powers forever.
But when a strange historical book accidentally sets off a curse, Sage’s quiet small-town life is suddenly overrun and magic is running rife. A beanstalk grows in her garden, and her friend and coworker Casimir starts to look an awful lot like a handsome prince. Fairy tales are coming true. . . .
Now, with the threat of the coven on her tail, Sage must confront the magic she’s always denied to solve the mysteries of the book and save everyone she’s come to love from being lost to a fairy tale forever. The question is, can she finally learn to be her own happily ever after?
