Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Lynnette and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, I’ve Got You, Babe!

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would you use for the audition of the main characters and why?

If, oh, my gosh, I’ve Got You, Babe, was optioned for a movie, I’d want the actors that play both my hero and heroine to be open and vulnerable with each other. There’d have to be major chemistry between them, hidden at first but teasing us through the h/h’s actions, words, and attitude toward each other. And, obviously, because there’s a three-year-old in the picture, anyone Elisa Danvers becomes involved with Must Love Babies!

There are several pivotal scenes I’d really like to use but can’t because, well, SPOILER ALERT!
But here’s one that works on quite a few levels.

Imagine a cool fall evening in Georgia’s low country and a walk in the park with that special someone–oh, and a three-year-old named Daisy and a yet-to-be-trained Lab pup.

This scene taps into all that, and it’s one of the first moments Tucker Wylder and Elisa Danvers have had to truly relax around each other.

Here’s the scene:

“How about a short walk through the park?” Tucker pulled to the curb and turned to Elisa.
She looked up and down the street, taking in Darlene’s Quilty Pleasure shop, Henderson’s Drug Store, the little gift shop. “I’ll miss this.”
“Let’s not talk about that right now.” He tipped his head toward the little girl he was unbuckling, then snapped a leash on the pup’s collar.
With Daisy riding piggyback and a firm grip on Lug Nut’s leash, he opened Elisa’s door for her.
“Thanks.” Elisa reached for the leash. “You’re a good boy, aren’t you?” She scratched the dog’s head, sending him into waves of wriggling joy.
One hand behind his back to hold Daisy, Tucker reached for her mother’s free hand with his other.
When she laced her fingers with his, his world felt better than it had in a long, long time. They crossed into the park, and Tucker crouched so Daisy could crawl off.
Hand in hand, they wandered along the path lined with chrysanthemums and late roses, crunching their way through fallen leaves. Daisy skipped and sang, Elisa smiled more than he’d seen before, and he found himself feeling like some damned hero. He half expected Julie Andrews to pop out from behind a tree singing “The Sound of Music”.
When they reached a display featuring a ratty scarecrow, a pile of pumpkins, and a cool wooden wagon, he said, “Hey, kiddo, hop in there, and I’ll take your picture. Kind of a souvenir of your time in Misty Bottoms”
“’Kay!” She scrambled in. “Come on, Mommy. You have to be in Tut’s soupaneer, too.”
“Honey, he doesn’t want—”
“Yeah, he does,” Tucker said, his voice gravelly. “He’d like that. Very much.”
“Tuck—”
“Elisa—”
Her laugh, sexy as all get out, had Tucker’s belly doing a little flip.
Smiling, she moved behind Daisy, who grinned up at her. Lug Nut licked Daisy’s cheek and Tucker captured the moment.
“I wasn’t ready,” Elisa cried out.
“Me, either,” Daisy said.
Tucker laughed. “Say when.” He snapped again, but he knew it was the first shot he’d have printed for himself.
