Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Allie and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, Just Roommates!

Hello beautiful readers!

Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:

Crazy Sara may have met her match with her best friend’s little brother, Zack. Will Just Roommates stay that way or will they become something more?

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Zack:

I scrub my hands down my face and let my sister finish her tirade. It’s a good one this time. If you’d asked me a month ago if I thought my move to New York was a wise decision, I’d have told you hands down it was the best move I’d ever make. Now, four weeks in, I want to go back and kick past me. When I showed up, it was supposed to be a surprise for my oldest and dearest sister, and she was surprised, but as a new mom, things went from surprise to tense. I didn’t exactly plan for this, because planning for your sister to go from fun-loving party girl to mom is impossible. My mistake.

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • Sara loves reading classic mysteries
  • The banter between Zack and Sara has their chemistry off the charts
  • Zack can be VERY persuasive when he wants to be
  • Jealousy doesn’t look good on Sara
  • Zack is a surprisingly talented artist

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

Both Zack and Sara are all about having fun, a hot date, good food, and maybe a little extra. Physical attraction is on top of the list. The longer they lie in the same apartment, the deeper they connect.

Using just 5 words, how would you describe Hero and Heroine’s love affair?

Witty banter and sexual tension

The First Kiss…

It takes a while for Sara and Zack to give in to the lust because a promise to not kiss your best friend’s brother shouldn’t be broken. Once the kiss happens though, it’s passionate, explosive, and goes so far beyond kissing.

Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?

The banter in this book takes the sexual tension to a whole new level. I can’t pick just one scene!

“So, you moved yourself into Piper’s house after getting her drunk and getting her to agree?” He gives me a sly smile, and I nod.
“No. I suggested it, and your sister agreed. Maybe there was booze,” I admit. “She loves me, and we’d been friends for ages anyway, it made sense,” I try to convince him, but he gives me a look. “Maybe not ages, but we’d talked.” I’m not sure if I’m trying to convince him or myself.
“Even Eliza likes you, so you must be something special.” Zack goes back to staring at the ceiling, peas still in place.
“Special?” I toss my hair and look at him. “I’m one of a kind, and I know it.”
“I believe that.” Zack keeps his head tipped to the ceiling.

If your book was optioned for a movie, what scene would be absolutely crucial to include?

Oh! If Zack and Sara were on the big screen, I’d have to go with the first time they both stay in the apartment.

Zack picks up the discarded book and rubs his palm on the softcover. “This is well-loved.” He studies it for a moment. “Sherlock fan, huh?” He eyes me skeptically.
“Is that a problem?” He looks so confused by my reading choices.
“No.”
“Surprised?” I’m suddenly feeling very self-conscious, which is not a normal emotion for me.
“Nope.” He shakes his head and hands my book back.
“Then why are you looking at me like that?” I cross my arms over my chest.
“Because,” he points at where my cat is sulking, “you named your cat Miss Marple, but you’re reading Sherlock. Miss Jane Marple is the superior detective by far, although Hercule Poirot is my absolute favorite.” He scoffs and walks over to the couch, leaving his worn leather sandals by the door.
I take in his threadbare clothes, mussed hair, paint-splattered arms, and camera around his neck. “You read classic mysteries?” He turns and gives me an annoyed look. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
“Now that you’ve offended me, can I crash on your couch?” He smirks as I drop down beside him and opens my book. “Only for tonight,” I say with as much conviction as I can muster.

Readers should read this book …

Readers should read this book because Zack and Sara are so darn cute and loveable. Sara’s over the top personality makes her the girl you want to hang out with, and Zack is sexy and quirky. It’s a fun, quick read that everyone will love!

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have planned?

I’m currently working on book four in my Words for Nerds Series about four best girlfriends who run a comic shop. Book two releases on September 25th!

Excerpt from Just Roommates:

I clear my throat and try to rein in my weirdness. I obviously didn’t sleep enough last night because my brain is making me super weird . I open the fridge, needing a boost after a long day at work. There, in the front, is a bottle of my favorite iced coffee and a container with my name on. I glance back to see Zack watching me. He saved me whatever he cooked, and suddenly I feel the burn of tears.
“You saved me some?” I ask.
“Actually, I made that for you. I know you don’t like green peppers, so I made you a portion without and added them later. The chips are clipped and in the cabinet.” Then it hits me like the punch I blackened his eyes with. I like Zack. Not like being roommates with him, not like I enjoy my dates, but genuinely like him. My eyes land on the setting for two, and the warm fuzzy feelings leave. I may like him, but he’s just being nice. We’re friends. I’m his sister’s crazy best friend and his roommate, nothing more.
“I really appreciate it.” I clear my throat and grab the container, cracking the lid and putting it in the microwave.
“You going out tonight?” I hear the familiar sound of brushes being dropped into the smelly stuff he cleans them with.
“No,” I call back, watching my food slowly rotate in the microwave. “I don’t think so.”
“You have your porn club tomorrow,” he teases. “So no date for two nights in a row?”
“Believe it or not, I don’t go out every night.” I get my food out and grab the bag of chips. Balancing the food and my iced coffee in my arms, I head to the couch.
“Wow.” Zack uses a wipe on his hands and grabs the dishes off the table on his way past me to the kitchen. I hear the water and know he’s going to wash the platter instead of leaving it for later. He’s a great roommate.
“Shocking, right? Who knew I could make it forty-eight whole hours without a man telling me I’m pretty.” I scoop a pile of filling onto my chip and shove it in my mouth.
“I’m so proud of you. Forty-eight hours is a long time. If you really need to hear it, I’ll tell you how pretty you are.” Zack sets the platter in the drainer and fills up a glass of water, adding ice from the fridge, before coming to sit with me on the couch.
I toss my hair. “Aw! Thanks!” I use my best high pitched flirting voice.
“Anytime. What are roommates for if not to inflate your ego?” He winks at me

Book Info:

Sara
I’m known around 425 Madison, and to my friends, as Crazy Sara. While they never use the nickname to my face, I know my reputation precedes me. That’s just fine with me, after all I’ve got everything I ever wanted. I have an apartment in the swankiest building in NYC, a different date every night, and the future is mine for the taking.
Okay so maybe only one thing is missing – the perfect roommate to keep me company.
Unfortunately, the roommate who wants me is not what I had in mind. And my best friend gave me one rule: Don’t sleep with her brother.

Zack
With an art degree in hand it only makes sense for me to move to NYC. Both of my sisters live here and my new niece. New York has an endless supply of muses for my art and models to entertain.
Things were just fine in my new life, until my sister gets tired of me crashing in her guest room and decides I’ll be the perfect roommate for her friend Crazy Sara. I’m on board with a change of scenery as long as the scenery is my sister’s gorgeous friend. But turns our Crazy Sara isn’t really as crazy as they all claim and she’s not really interested in me – or at least that’s what she claims.
That’s fine, two can play this game…
After all, 425 Madison is the perfect place to fall in love!

I think we would watch mystery movies together, go to one of those parties where they act out a mystery or maybe even test her skills by going to an escape room.

  2. Pamela Conway

We both read but I read romance not mystery. I guess hang out, go get something to eat. Idk but it sounds like a good book!!

  3. Karina Angeles

Try out and Escape Room and then head over to a wine and paint event.

  4. Debbie P

We would be taking the baby for walks and probably having a cocktail or two when the baby is down for the night.

  5. dbranigan

I’m not sure we would be best friends or close roommates because we seem to be opposites in nature. Perhaps we would watch movies together occasionally,

  6. eawells

Find a book store that specializes in mysteries and shop there. Also, maybe cast the movie versions of some of our favorite books.

  7. Pammie R.

I think I would do a lot more than I do on my own. Having someone willing to go do the things I’ve always wanted to would be fun.

  8. Nicole (Nicky) Ortiz

Hang out and talk, watch movies and once in a while to go a bar
    Thanks for the chance!

  9. Anita H.

It would be fun for us to one of those murder mystery parties or movie night
