Spotlight&Giveaway

Hi Ava and welcome to HJ! We’re so excited to chat with you about your new release, The Paris Roommates: Sawyer!

Hey Beautiful Peeps! So excited to talk about a hero who will romance you unlike any you’ve read outside of Jane Austen and the magic of Paris. 🙂

Please summarize the book for the readers here:

THE PARIS ROOMMATES: SAWYER is a slow burn, reinvention, found family story about a dreamy art professor going after his huge dream of being a famous painter after crashing and burning on it ten years ago in Paris. Now he’s back with his found family—his former roommates—who returned to the City of Light to help someone from their past and find their own reinvention and romance. With their ride-or-die support and the help from a bold woman in the arts who believes in him before he does (his new muse), he’s kicking his ghosts aside and putting paintbrush to canvas to give Monet a run for his money.

Please share your favorite line(s) or quote from this book:

“Phoebe Anderson held the same magic for him as a precious book.”

Please share a few Fun facts about this book…

  • This group of characters came from my soul, it seemed. I started plotting it during Covid, when we couldn’t really hang out with our friends. I wanted a group of people who were from different walks of life returning to Paris to help someone they cared about and then staying on to help each other as they remade their lives. Their connection is really special, and it’s given me a lot of hope and happiness about how people can come together and support each other when a lot of people quite frankly don’t feel that way right now.
  • The Paris setting is a pleasure to write. I live in France now (bucket list) so everything in the story is rich with the real stuff. Not AI generated book research LOL. I know what the air smells like in the fall, and I’ve gone to the places in the books. In Sawyer’s story, I drew from being a painter myself, so the internal struggles as well as the beautiful mecca where every serious artist buys their art supplies in Paris is true to life. And…I might be a total geek about philosophy and old books like Sawyer.

What first attracts your Hero to the Heroine and vice versa?

The power of Sawyer and Phoebe’s romance was them really rocking the whole opposites attract trope.

Sawyer is not your typical hero in the best way. He’s the kind of old world gentleman who romances you with poetry and Shakespeare. He’d binge watch the Bridgerton’s with you and be over the moon while feeding you grapes and champagne. I adore him! He’s an old soul with a linen handkerchief in his pocket and romance in his heart. He’ll write you love letters and believes your laugh is art. And that you are the muse he’s been waiting for. He’s paint-splattered, linen-wrapped, romantic poetry quoting perfection. I’ve never written a character like him.

Then there’s Phoebe: She’s strong, smart, and unabashedly herself. Her colors are bold as is her attitude. She is the perfect match to challenge him, and since she’s a huge lover of Shakespeare, it was super fun to have him quote the Bard back to her as they went on really romantic dates to places like antique book shops in Paris, not everyone’s cup of tea, especially a hero’s. 
When they meet, they’re trading love quotes like there’s no tomorrow. Like this one:
“My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.” Romeo and Juliet

I was like, these two are magic together!

Did any scene have you blushing, crying or laughing while writing it? And Why?

I think my heart pretty much up and sighed during this scene.

Much later, after he lay with her in his arms, their sweat mingling and trickling down his chest, he whispered into her hair a piece of Shakespeare pulsing in his mind along with his body.
No sooner met but they looked; No sooner looked but they loved; No sooner loved but they sighed…
She clutched him to her with all her heart, and he felt himself ascending to another plane of existence, the ones mystics speak of—the union of the body and soul with another—as he recited the lines of a poem that sprung up to the forefront of his mind.
Doubt thou the stars are fire; Doubt the sun doth move; Doubt truth to be a liar;
but never doubt thy love.
A smile spread across his face as he inhaled her fully, her scent of woman and spice one he never wished to be without. He didn’t need CliffsNotes to know that she got what he was saying and replied in kind.
They were in love.

Readers should read this book….

Because it feels like…
* Sharing pastries with people who get you
* Creating something messy and beautiful from scratch
* Looking in the mirror and finally seeing someone worthy of love
* Late-night convos with friends who become family
* And falling- slowly, sweetly, completely… for someone who sees your heart before your surface.

What are you currently working on? What other releases do you have in the works?

I’m currently finishing the final book in the Paris Roommates series (so sad), but it’s blazing hot because it’s two roommates who have been fighting their attraction for each other since Book 1. Readers have been fanning themselves and begging for this story, so THE PARIS ROOMMATES: KYLE AND MADISON is coming out March 17, 2026.

I’m also happily plotting my new small town series called Wild Mountain with a whole bunch of my usual fun side characters set in Montana about a renown herbalist returning to town to help her first love save his ranch. I adore research (!!!) and lived in the Mountain West for a while, so it’s fun to step back into that setting. It’s coming summer 2026! I can’t wait to share.

Excerpt from The Paris Roommates: Sawyer:

His goddess come to life wore a lime green coat. Nothing else—not books, or art, or even the lone strands of a violin from a nearby street performer—could grab his attention away from her as she stopped at the next bouquiniste. He wanted to say it was the contrast of her lime green attire with the deep emerald paint of the stand, but he knew that wasn’t it.

No, not at all.

She might have stepped out of a Titian painting for all her rich colors. She had a wild mass of red hair and green eyes that sparkled in a flawless oval-shaped face. Her brows were thick and arched, and her mouth was lush and sexy and painted a deep rose. Long gold earrings hung from her ears— those chandelier kind, brushing the strap of an oversized purple purse that he now saw matched her purple leather gloves. Her legs were encased in navy leggings embroidered with white roses, leading down to navy lace-up boots that were old-school Victorian in style.

What should have been a cacophony of color somehow looked perfect on her.

His mouth went dry.

God, she was captivating! Her vitality was as tangible as a waterfall. She wasn’t afraid to be seen, and it made him insatiably curious about her. What kind of upbringing had she had to be so bold, to be so…herself.

Because he knew he was looking at an original—the same way he knew when he was looking at a print.

Then she looked up, and his stomach lodged in his throat. Those eyes…

What paint could ever do them justice?

Book Info:

International Bestseller Ava Miles delivers another flirty and feel good romantic comedy à la Emily in Paris and Friends about a struggling artist who finds confidence—and love—with the help of his found family.

There has only ever been one thing Dr. Sawyer Jackson wanted: to live in Paris and be an artist. But he bombed on his first brave attempt as an awkward youth with big dreams—a fact his parents remind him of every chance they get. Pushed by their fiery ambitions, he teaches instead, living a half-life as an art professor.

Until he’s offered a second chance to return to Paris and realize his dreams. Clutching a paintbrush and a dream, he returns to the City of Light hoping to turn this love/hate relationship around.

It’s absolutely wonderful—in his atelier surrounded by canvases, he’s living his best life.

It’s absolute hell—he can’t drown out his parents’ criticism that he’s not good enough, despite how much his roommates assure him.

And then there’s this girl… She loves that he’s a throwback to another time with his love for old books, romantic gestures, and linen handkerchiefs. Even better, she’s in the art world and knows good work. She says she believes in him, but will she still if he doesn’t make it? Is this happily ever after, or just another prelude to heartbreak?

But this is Paris, and if there were ever a place for a miracle, it’d be here.

Reinvention, rediscovery, and romance… Fall in love with THE PARIS ROOMMATES.
The good-girl baker Thea Rogers.
The restless dreamer Dean Harris.
The driven fashion writer Brooke Adams.
The charismatic professor Dr. Sawyer Jackson.
The rebel Chef Madison Garcia.
The disillusioned golden boy restaurateur Kyle Taylor.
